Oscars face makes me ill, because I reflect on what would have happened if he had complied to police orders. He sure made a mess for everyone because he thought he was above the law!

I think the accusation is that some other dude was bonking the girl cop, and that first he came to her defense, then Mehserle came to his defense. Not that it makes much sense that way, either.

Not possible at all. Oscar Grant wasn't even there because he was in Calcutta, India at the time picking up where Mother Teresa left off. I saw him; he was handing out money to homeless lepers and helping elderly women cross the street. When he was done with that, he helped rescue ten litters of absolutely adorable kittens and puppies from a burning vehicle perched at the edge of a crumbling cliff. Because you know, he's a hero to us all and a wonderful virtuous member of society. Oops, not any more. We are not all Oscar Grant because we are not all tough guy idiots who test the limits of what others will tolerate on a daily basis.

The M&R article says that Grant's attorney has been "stoking the public relations fire under BART's cloth seat". John Burris can say anything in a press release, doesn't necessarily mean it's true. I myself kind of doubt that Mehserle was half of any relationship like that, given that his wife gave birth only a day after this happened. Hopefully this big mess gets properly sorted out in court instead of via the big settlement Grant's family is looking for.

Seems like it'd be a smart thing to have a rule on, but are relationships prohibited on the BART police force? On any police force? Was there a rule or a strict guideline broken here?
