Penn, Black Win Oscars for Milk

Nominated for eight Academy Awards, Gus Van Sant's Harvey Milk biopic Milk took home two awards last night: Best Original Screenplay (Dustin Lance Black) and Best Actor (Sean Penn). This makes win number-two for Bay Area local Penn (first being for Mystic River) who jokingly called the audience "commie, homo-loving sons of guns" as he took to the stage to collect his booty. Heh. Yeah. That was kind of rad.

Reformed Mormon and Big Love scribe Black awesomely thanked "God for giving us Harvey Milk" while accepting the award for Best Original Screenplay. Then, Black went on to call every homosexual watching the show "beautiful."

Some movie about people competing on Who Wants to be a Millionaire? who eschew collars at formal events, or whatever, went on to win Best Picture.

And here's your obligatory OMG-the-Oscars-sucked-this-year article. Wait, the ceremony was too long? Too boring? Oh, bookish East Coast writers, what can't you see through!

Oh, enlightened West Coast writers, what can see right through you. I am sure that there is a mass love-in now after the totally PC awards show did exactly what everyone wanted it to do: Hollywood blowhards patting each other on the back and Penn on yet another misinformed tirade. Blah.
