As refined "commie, homo-loving sons-of-guns" approached last night's Oscars, here's what they were greeted with before arriving to the Kodak Theater in Los Angeles. The folks from God Hates Fags ilk. Yep, they showed up in full regalia last night, coagulating at the corner of Sunset Blvd. and Highland Ave. They even managed to garner a cocked eyebrow from Sean Penn during his acceptance speech.
According to reports, these mentally- and spiritually-challenged folks showed up to picket homosexuals, but also managed to get in digs at President Barack Obama and the economy. And seeing as how SFist has been so anti-prop 8 as of late, it's only fair to give the anti-gay marriage folk a turn.
But, like any good Hollywood-spun tale, a hero emerged in the form of two noble Marines who counterprotested the crazy-hate. Enjoy.

Wow! What's funny is how hard a time these nutters have staying on message. I mean what does 'Milk' have to do with Obama? The 'Your Pastor is a Whore' sign seems extra out of place. It's good to see that not only the Left has poor media discipline.
I laugh at the religious cretins, but I still want a blacklight poster of the Obama with rams horns image - it's kind of awesome, and would look great in my converted basement den next to the six armed alien shaman and prowling panther posters down there.
I don't think they are protesting "Milk" in particular. They're just not over "Titanic" getting all those awards back in 1898 or whenever that was.

I'm glad someone else noticed this. And it's not just that it is illegal, it's the ultimate offense. She might just as well be burning it.
I think that they are disrepecting the flag on purpose. So long as there are gays/jews/ _______ still here in America, then they hate america. which is why they protest soldier's deaths as well.

Well, with signs like 'god hates the world,' it seems they hate everything and everyone. But they certainly don't need printed signs to illustrate the point.
It's not a "stars and bars dress". It's the stars and *stripes*, worn as a dress. The stars and bars was a flag used by the Secessionists during the Civil War.
It is not "illegal to wear the flag" or to do anything you like with a flag. The US Flag Code establishes advisory rules but you cannot be arrested or punished for breaking any of its rules, because of the First Amendment.

Actually, I'm not surprised, shocked, or even angry at this protest. The Fred Phelps types are so unhinged, they've become the Fred Chus of religious nutters. I expect their next sign to say something like "God Hates Kindness."
Frankly I don't think Penn should have even acknowledged their presence.
Likely one of the reasons the USMC guy was there is that the Phelps types even show up at the funeral services for soldiers killed in Iraq and Afghanistan because of some connection only their deranged minds can make between tolerance of gayness and the reason we're fighting over there.
I have a friend whose Harley club shows up at military funerals to put a large, hairy mass of respectful bikers as a buffer between the funerals and disrespectful Phelps people.

The only reason those guys keep showing up to protest stuff is because they keep generating outraged blog posts, news stories, and counter-protests. It's family whose livelihood involves traveling around trying to get assaulted by police or counter-protestors so they can then sue for a settlement. Ignore them and they will stop.
And what is wrong with these people protesting? I dont hear anyone complaining about the Gays making the US flag into a rainbow. These people have the same rights as the pro Gay Marraige groups who attacked religious sites. These people have the same rights as those who are using the prop 8 "hate" google lists to hurt peoples businesses and jobs. These people have a right to vote, and rights to protect their Religious beliefs. Sean Penn should keep his yap shut. When you look at the websites that show who donated money to "no on prop 8" his name is not listed. He probably donated anonymously, cus he doesnt want any attention. Yeah, these people are dumb, but Sean Penn is the village idiot for bringing attention to them.

By "prop 8 "hate" google lists" I assume you mean taking the publicly available proposition donor information and showing it via online maps. Yes, visualization of data can be hateful, when the people visualizing it are bent on hatefulness.
Are you going to defend your allegations of gays "attacking" religious sites, and that the prop 8 donor information being used to "hurt peoples businesses and jobs"?
