According to an angry missive from the fine folks over at SoMa's DNA Lounge, the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control is trying to put them permanently out of business. It seems the buzz kills have accused them of "running a disorderly house injurious to the public welfare and morals", and are trying to revoke their liquor license, which would put them out of business.
What's surprising, though, is that the ABC has come down on just the gay and lesbian events. All of the ABC's accusations stem from two monthly queer nights that used to happen at DNA Lounge: "Cream", a lesbian dance party; and "Escandalo", a gay male Latin dance party. "That's two events out of the approximately eighteen nights a month that we are open," says DNA Lounge. (Both nights have since been canceled after they learned the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control was taking action.)
Here's an example of just one of the ABC's harrowing accusations:
Later, Suspect-6 and Suspect-7 left the stage and S-1 (now wearing fluorescent green underwear), S-8, and the night's host "Lola" came on stage. S-1 and S-8 both pulled down the back of their underwear fully exposing their buttocks multiple times in violation of Rule 143.2(1). Also while on stage I observed S-8 get behind "Lola" and simulate having sexual intercourse by grabbing "Lola's" shoulders and thrusting his pelvis against "Lola's" buttocks several times in violation of Rule 143.3(1)(a). During this time S-1 was in front of "Lola" facing him/her and "Lola" was grabbing his bare buttocks in violation of 143.2(3) and 143.3(1)(b).
Fighting buttocks grabbing at San Francisco clubs doesn't seem the best way for the ABC to use tax dollars. Especially during the recession. Read more about it over at DNALounge.com

I can only imagine "date nite" at your typical ABC agent's house goes something like this:
Darling I will be arriving home tonight at approximately 18:30 hours when I will commence to grab your shoulders roughly from behind in violation of Rule 143.2 somewhere in the kitchenette/breakfast nook area of our domicile.
The DNA employs a lot of awesome, hard working people. I've been going there for years, and the staff always work hard to make sure everything is safe and by the book. It makes me sad and angry that the mistakes of a few people who are no longer involved with the club (and were not employees) may threaten the livelihood of so many. The ABC has to know that this is not a problem venue. I don't know why they would spend their time trying to close down a successful business in this economy.
So the mongoloid crew of Jesus Inc. can't win or hold onto elected office or power so this is their current war front?
Not surprising but pathetic, nonetheless.
Simulating intercourse and "grabbing bare buttocks" happens all the time at clubs, what's the big whoop?
Anyway, I can definitely say that DNA is definitely not one of the problem clubs, most of the patrons are well-behaved and aren't assholes. From reading the DNA blog, I can't help but think that there's someone at the ABC who holds a personal grudge against either the owner or the establishment itself (i.e., an agent or a friend/relative of one got kicked out one night).
they've been trying to shut down a lot of SoMa clubs. And yeah seriously, the average dance floor problem has a whole lot of section whatever point whatever offenses. People simulate sex (or as the kids call it, freak dancing).
they should spend more effort on 1015 Folsom. That's where people get shot and stabbed. who cares about seeing a little buttcrack?
They are targeting The Mix too (for capacity issues). I think it's the Mormons.
They're acronymically jealous
Grabbing buttocks? People get shot and stabbed at 1020 Folsom and they're trying to shut down DNA lounge for some ass-grabbery? WTF?
It's 1015 (not 1020), and it's been about 2 years since the shooting, and just over a year since the stabbing. Considering its size and the fact that it's been around for over 20 years, they have a pretty good track record, especially considering that they've always been right in the cross hairs of the police, DEA, city hall, etc.
That having been said, I would easily go to DNA over 1015 any day of the week, for a variety of reasons.
Her name was Lola, she was a showgirl
With yellow feathers in her hair and a dress cut down to there
She would merengue and do the cha-cha
And while she tried to be a star, Tony always tended bar
Across a crowded floor, they worked from 8 till 4
They were young and they had each other
Who could ask for more?

Can we get some action from the mayor or supervisors on the fun police? They obviously target SOMA places when the bars on Broadway are the scene of multiple violent incidences every weekend. Perhaps it's because the DNA isn't owned by a chain with better bribe money than JWZ is willing to pay?
not too surprising, since according to this very site, the ABC was created to harass San Francisco gays...

I'll bet that johnny come lately neighborhood condo owners are behind this...
We need to pass laws allowing full-on live sex shows. I mean, we have a reputation to uphold here people. You can see far more than this during Folsom and that's a major civic event. How are we supposed to keep our reputation as a forward-thinking sexually-liberated city with this kind of crap going on?
The ABC is a political bludgeon, period.
I work off of Broadway..and in the past 4? months alone..a guy got shot and killed in fuse...there was a huge mob fight where another gun went off. I dread going to work on Fri/ Sat nights cause of the chaos of the drunk yahoos of the area. Too top it off Deja Vu owns all the strip clubs in the area and is charging dancers illegal fees and you can actually get a handjob/ other illegal activities at some of these strip clubs. yet nothing is really changed around the bars around these clubs. And being a former staff..I know Deja Vu doesnt like cops/ regulation..so makes me wonder why ABC instead of investigating these venues...chooses to go after DNA/ SOMA clubs..and these hard working folks. I have performed at several of these venues and DNA was actually prbly the strictest venue I've ever worked for and the staff has been very professional and on top of things..They should target the real problem areas where guns are going off...versus someone dry humping in the audience..sheesh..get your priorities straight or stop turning your cheek on areas just because they pay off someone in your dept...can we say corruption?
