Tony, he's wearing a full-face helmet and at least a jacket. If he wrecked at city speeds he'll most likely be OK, minus some bruising and perhaps a broken bone. We're not looking at a body, and I don't even know where you got the FUD comment from - this isn't it.

I agree with thehypercube guy on this one. Why are we staring at dead bodies? If this had some relevance in lawmaking or other, I'd understand, but please... Isn't there enough FUD propaganda in the news already?

I'd also like to mention that, although it is still anecdotal evidence, I have split through completely stopped traffic with CHP officers and shared to the front of lights with SFPD officers. Haven't received any more grief than a friendly wave - seems legit to me.

What are you smoking? Of course lane splitting is permissible when traffic is stopped. The ACTUAL law is that lane sharing is only legal when it is safe to do so. Exactly what that means is a case-by-case basis decided by the police and/or judge. Splitting through stopped traffic up to a light is NOT a leading cause of motorcycle accidents. In fact, it keeps us (the riders) safe from getting rear ended by inattentive drivers (trust me, it happens more than you'd think), and doesn't cause you (the drivers) any trouble, provided the person doing the splitting is following the law and not kicking in your doors, etc. Please think, or at least do some research, before you post something you clearly know nothing about.

Awesome. Rubbernecking on the internet. The victim is unidentifiable so other than the zomg picture of somebody in pain what's the point? People fall off their bicycles, motorcycles, mopeds and scooters every day. It's not fun, we always hope they are okay. That's human nature, except for murderous psychopaths. Leave the "it's not news" to fark... if this was a picture of me, i'd write in to tell you how stupid i look on the ground like that. I'd ask why you're embarrassing yourself with this sadistic voyeurism. I hope i never fall off my scooter if only so that I don't end up as a grainy photo on a blog.

That corner has always had far too many accidents--used to live in the top floor, corner apartment. A lot of folks treat it as the last gasp turn before being trapped into going all the way to Portola, so they try to whip an illegal in front of downhill traffic that's usually going way too fast. And the small signals are hard to see in the daytime, especially in the early morning sunrise.

Also among the causes of motorcycle accidents (since we're listing them), unsafely splitting lanes at intersections where cars are stopped waiting for the light to change or to turn. (I know lane splitting is not illegal, but it is only permissible when the traffic around you is actually moving)

Among the causes of motorcycle accidents, a car turning left in front of a bike going straight is way up there. They're smaller, so they look further away. OBJECTS ON BIKES MAY BE CLOSER THAN THEY APPEAR. Please, drivers (and riders) - be careful.

And who really hasn't been in similar situations? I've taken many spills on my bike. Thank god he was wearing a full-face. Jeans really don't do much from an abrasion resistance perspective, nor do jean jackets. DAMHIKT.
