Thomas Hawk in Trouble with the FBI?

thomashawkfbi.jpg

After causing a stink for snapping shots inside SF MOMA, local photog Thomas Hawk was one again busted for taking shots of industrial stuff down in the Long Beach Harbor. Anyway, today, it seems, Hawk "just got off the phone with Terry Carter from the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force" to talk about whether or not he harbored ill will toward the American government. Hawk goes into more detail about what went down, but we feel there must be a way for the controversial photographer to take pictures without getting into so much trouble. (Jameth has practically photographed acts of murder in progress with little fuss and/or muss.) Any advice for the guy?

Creepy. It's right up to line. But I'm not sure this qualifies as "trouble." Looks like the refinery in question just lied about the incident.

A cursory check of Thomas Hawk's blog should clear up any questions.

There's TH's right to take photos and there's the FBI's right to ask questions - it sort of balances out.

There are some things that are illegal to photograph even from public land, but the list of these things isn't available to the public so you can never be sure what you're not supposed to photograph. Oh well.

Could have been worse, at least they weren't taking pictures from a "Why Islam?" bus!

that's because Jameth uses a phone, and Hawk uses a bulky camera with a big fat lens and tripods. No way to be discreet with all that stuff.
