American Apparel doesn't "pocket" the money from the sales of our "Legalize Gay, Repeal Prop 8" t-shirts. These were originally printed up to give out to protesters at rallies and marches after the passage of Proposition 8 last November. The response was so overwhelming that we had more made and distributed them to all the American Apparel stores and put them up online.

In case anyone is curious about our position on gay rights and homosexuality in general, we just wanted you to know that:

-Dozens of our employees have been on the front lines of the protests in Los Angeles handing out hundreds and hundreds of Legalize Gay t-shirts to supporters
-We have donated over $17,000 of t-shirts to protesters, the Harvey Milk High School in New York City, and local gay businesses.
-We plan on donating at least 1,000 more of these t-shirts to other organizations that support marriage equality.
-We stood up to the people who wanted us to stop carrying Butt Magazine and will continue to support it because its the right thing to do
-Many of our employees are gay, lesbian and transgendered.
-We're currently discussing potential projects with GLBT Historical Society in San Francisco

It's great that Urban Outfitters is doing what they're doing but we know where we stand on this and are sincere about it.

AA should be crying that UO is considered a 'better' company than them right now. UO is notorious for stealing independent artist's designs and artwork and uses sweat shops and small children for their labor. What good is your sweat shop free manufacturing if you're not donating to a cause you're advertising to fight for.

Because the value of open and free discussion of controversial subjects would be furthered if only non-profit speech is encouraged? But I agree, props to Urban Outfitters.
