Road Rage Prompts Stabbing of Off-Duty SFPD Officer

stabbing of sfpd officer.JPG

Yesterday, a little after 1pm at Haight and Steiner, an off-duty police officer was stabbed. According to reports, the officer was cycling along when he had a "verbal exchange or altercation" with a man in a Cadillac. After things got heated, the suspect got out of his car, stabbed the officer several times, got back in his car, and drove off. The unidentified officer was whisked to San Francisco General Hospital to be treated for non-life threatening wounds. After several eyewitnesses came forward, the suspect was later apprehended. Update: The suspect has been identified as Nicholas Batchelor "a 29-year-old white male from the Peninsula."

Oh, so THAT'S what it takes for the SFPD to take an interest in making arrests.

Wow. Witnesses! Amazing how when people give the police information they can actually catch someone.

well. as long as the witnesses aren't the police themselves, i guess.

We were at Molotov's at ~5, watching the live coverage from next door. http://www.flickr.com/photos/troymccluresf/3270905892/

All good stories start with: "We were at Molotov's at 5...."

I know these off-duty cops. I was riding in Critical Mass (first and last time, ever) about six years ago. I stopped at Ellis and Gough to look for some friends of mine. Some dude comes out of nowhere and pushes me hard in the chest. He says "I'm an off-duty cop," and then he runs away up the hill to his car. I was kind of shocked (unlike many regular CM riders, I didn't have my bike lock cocked to hit him in the head) and I said "why did you hit me?" Other riders started yelling at him, but the little bit*h ran away too fast.

Keep doing things like that, and you'll ultimately meet someone who's crazy enough to stab you.

How do you know that wasn't just some random asshole? Did he run to a marked car? Did he have a visible badge?

And if it was an off duty cop that was an asshole to you, then the guy who got stabbed deserved it because he's an off duty cop too? They are all the same person?

Apparently, megang, you have no sense of humor. Why not rip on Mattymatt for casting aspersions on the SFPD's willingness or lack thereof to investigate crimes?

i think steven fowler would agree with you.

Hey, where is the "All bicyclists run red lights and don't wear helmets rant?" Have you folks gone soft?

Yeah, aren't cyclists always at fault? don't they always deserve to be stabbed?

Er, you never get in road rage incidents with Cadillacs.

Roadrage driver behavior traits:

BMWs - shouty, sweary, punchy
Lexuses (new) - fingery, shouty
Lexuses (old) - shouty, stabby, shooty
Mercedes - fingery, facial gestury
Subarus - shouty
Priuses- ignory
Toyotas (asian) - hilariously shouty
Toyotas (hispanic) - shouty, laughy
Big trucks - shouty, punchy, chest puffy
Miatas- ironic gay hand gestury

what about navigators and escalades?

You can't see because of the tinted windows. But I wouldn't mess, 'could be a fat golfing banker in khakis, 'could be a secret service tool with a taser. Either way, you're going to have to deal with someone who's overweight, they might squash you.

that's who drives escalades and navigators in san francisco. huh.

Update from SFGate.com: The off-duty cop was trying to break-up an altercation between the suspect and somebody else...

He "parked" nearby? Jesus, dumb as fuck that kid.

When is the riot...er..mmm...protest because this cop got stabbed?

To quote someone from the last time you typed that stupid shit, "Yes, let us know if the perpetrator was someone in a position of power who was videotaped in the act, and yet was allowed to go free. Then the crazy protesters will be up in arms for no good reason."

One of the commenters on sfgate dug up his myspace page, which perhaps has the douchiest photo of a human being I've seen in a year:

Well, Haight and Steiner, I'd say he doesn't need to say more.
