I was interested in the topic of "science and Islam" on this web site. It proclaims that the Koran contains incredible knowledge about nature but, get this, this knowledge wasn't appreciated until the information of modern science became available! Talk about putting lipstick on a pig! In other words science had to come up with the information that islamic societies couldn't before a meaning for vague poetic language could be assigned after the fact. The fact is that the nature of islam and islamic society represses intellectual inquiry. I agree this site is a pile of BS.

SF Muni is a publically funded agency. Why is ANY religious group allowed to post an ad on its property? This violates the separation of church and state, but I guess the SF politicos don't really care about the law. After all, they allowed illegal alien drug pushers to hide from Federal immigration officers, resulting in at least two murders.

Informative site? It's a stinking pile of BS. Check out the FAQ. "Why do women veil themselves"? Forget the BS answer, the question itself implies that it's their choice. Explain that to my friend who just returned from Iran and was told by two revolutionary guards that her choice was to veil herself or get arrested. There's another question about jihad explaining that nowhere in the Quaraan is holy war advocated against non-muslims. That's like saying that there is nothing in the New Testiment advocating priestly pedophilia. Religion is a fluid thing. I think it's at best wishful thinking, at worst an insult to the western world to suggest we misunderstand Islam. I think we have a very clear understanding, thanks to a little something called the free press. However, I think that the world itself, all corners of it, misunderstand religion. Here's a short explanation: ancient, stupid people saw someone die. They got scared, they didn't want to die, so they had to come up with something that would make it all better. That's all it is, kiddies.

I see nothing wrong with the advertisement. Maybe I was just the only one who READ anything on that site. Personally, I thought it was informative and cleared up a few misconceptions I had. Then again, San Francisco is the city of whiners and protesters, so it shouldn't shock me that everyone is bitching about it. *eyeroll* Good post.

No less controversial than those old "The Church of Jesus H. Christ of Latter Day Saints. The Mormons" television commercials that used to be up in everyone's "grille" way back when. At least I don't have Muslim missionaries all banging on my door at 10:30 on a Saturday morning (aka the middle of the night) like those Jehovah's Witnesses.

I've been seeing a lot of pro-god advertising lately. BART has a series asking all sorts of philosophy 101 questions like does god get involved in US politics? The org is called God rides bart. it makes religions seems small, like dishwasher soap when they advertise.

Are you kidding me? They were an awesome band. "Save All Your Kisses for Me" won the Eurovision song contest in 1976. They even got that tricky Belgian Vote, "Brother Hood of Man, dix points! And that concludes the voting from the Belgian jury".
