Occupying the former space of Cassidy's (which was The Watering Hole many moons ago), Bloodhound debuted into the SOMA scene last week with its welcoming atmosphere and reasonable prices. During the past month, we've been moist with anticipation over the gutting of the space located on the corner of Hallam and Folsom. It's finally here and it's time for a place like this. We haven't received any reports of a glamorous limp request from our favorite neighborhood activist (you know, the one that was kerfuffled over sexual outlaws in SOMA). It appears that this place escaped her radar.
The consortium that brought us The Ambassador and Double Dutch have created a space that is certainly welcome amongst the bridge-and-tunneler clubs and bear/leather bars that are prominent in this part of SOMA. Certainly, there's nothing wrong with those places, but diversifying our neighborhood nightlife without destroying it is the potential with Bloodhound.
We had the opportunity to check it out on their first Friday night: it was butt-to-nut/boob-to-back. When we stopped by for an evening post-dinner drink on Saturday, it definitely had more of a neighborhood feel. A passer-by peeked her head in the door with surprise because it "looks better and smells better than what was here before." So true.
Happy hour is daily from 5 pm to 7 pm (subject to change) which currently features $1-off all wells and drafts. Wanna play pool like it was still Cassidy's? The table's here along with the hipsters who might be a bit out of place with that antler light fixture, but maybe that's the new black. Decor is straight out of Wyoming with its unfinished wood walls and Big Buck Hunter arcade game, so if you've ever wanted to experience the ambiance of the least-populous US state, get your drink on at Bloodhound without the risk of a Matthew Shepard incident.

The guys behind the Ambassador are behind the Bloodhound? I normally never say "ugh" about any place that will feed me alcohol, especially a new place, but yech.
Eh, maybe folks in SoMa really need a new place to get their coke on.
I actually enjoyed having Cassidy's in the hood. I'll check out Bloodhound cause it's right near The Climate but from the outside it looks more douchey. I'll take a good dive over a coke scene anyday.
On the inside, it wasn't douchey at all. And if there's a coke scene, nobody offered me any.
God, I want some coke.
Not a huge fan of the disneyesqe "old west" decor, but it is true that we could use another neighborhood-oriented place in that area. I was bummed when I saw Cassidy's was closing, even though I didn't go in there very often.
Anyone know what's happening with the Hole in the Wall's old space? The alcohol permit sign that used to be up there indicated that something called "589 bar" would be moving in but it's been several months now.
I think Ambassador and Double Dutch are B&T hangouts in their respective hoods, no?
