SFist Watches: Your Locals On Reality TV
Previously on "Top Chef": Scallops. And also, an episode we only got to see half of because of a screwed up recording, and a complete lack of desire to seek out another airing to see the whole thing. Is it just us, or is this season really kind of...boring? Anyway, local girl Jamie's team did win the challenge, which means she was still here for last week's episode. And this is what happened on that...
Quickfire Challenge: Stephen Starr was the guest judge, and the challenge was to do a "tasting" as preparation for the big challenge, which was a Restaurant War. Each chef would have to prepare something that would convince Starr to invest in their restaurant idea. Jamie admitted she had no desire to win the challenge since whoever did would have to head one of the restaurants, and they inevitably get sent home if their restaurant loses...She made a Chilean sea bass with creamed corn, bacon, peas, and garlic scape, with an arugula and tomato salad. Starr liked it, but did not burden her with a win. She was picked to be on Radhika's team.
There was a lot of nonsense about Hosea and Leah's kissing even though they both have significant others back home. We would care about this if either of them was the least bit interesting, but they aren't, so let's move on.
The concept for Radhika's restaurant was "the old spice trade" and it was called Sahana. The menu included curried carrot soup, grilled scallops (SCALLOPS!) with chickpea cake, braised lamb shank, seared snapper, baklava, chocolate cake, and frozen yogurts. Aside from Jamie being a little bitchy to the wait staff, we didn't get to see too much of what she did in the kitchen. The judges liked the first half of the meal, and hated the desserts. They also thought Radhika did an awful job as hostess. Even though the judges liked most of the food at Sahana, the other team won based on the hosting of Fabio, and the desserts of Stefan. In the end, Jamie called it, as Radhika, head of the "restaurant," was sent home. Also, Toby Young? SHUT. UP.
In other reality TV locals news, Sarah on "The Real World: Brooklyn" continues to be perhaps the most likable member of that household. At least she's not whipping out guitars or making out with strangers. Still, we sure miss the days when the show was only 30 minutes long.
As for the "The Bachelor," which a reader informed us has two local ladies this time around, alas, they were both sent home. Yay! Too bad.
