KRON's Gary Radnich
Even more bad news for local news station KRON. It seems Young Broadcasting Inc., which owns KRON, skipped out on a $6.125 million interest payment that was due Jan. 15. The interest payment was on a "8.75 percent senior subordinated notes due in 2014." And we have no idea what that means. Young owns 10 TV stations. According to SF Business Times, "it lost $22.2 million on sales of $36.2 million in the September quarter. In the nine months ended September, Young paid $2.625 million in principal payment on its credit facility." Young has 30 days to make the payment. Although Young is trying to sell KRON for almost a year, they have been unable to rid themselves of the former NBC affiliate. In addition to their fantastic morning news team, KRON airs original programming Henry's Garden, Bay Area Backroads, and... and we think that's it.

Somewhere right now Darya Folsom is looking over her resume.
No surprise. KRON's self-produced infomercials (e.g. Henry's Garden, Bay Area Bargains) simply won't cut it. Nor will outfitting the women on morning news in hootchie-mama attire akin to Spanish-language news help (not that this is a bad thing!).
Keeping Radnich off his meds was a masterstroke in programming--some of the most entertaining stuff on TV. I'm going to miss that.
At least KOFY is back.
are you kidding!!!!
the morning crew is the best thing about bay area television. especially in hd!
Oh noes Doug McConnell
KRON should be running a repertory-style station, like the KOFY retro nights (though that whole "Lucy Bowl" crap is a waste). There's a lot of TV and movies that are likely cheap for them to run. There are too many infomercials on local broadcast, and it makes every station that uses them less appealing.
KRON... just a bunch of zombies waiting to be sent back to the grave.
I still question why pro wrestling moved to the lowest rated, least viewed TV network in the nation.
as long as KNBR doesnt go anywhere im happy. Oh gary, keeping the news team on their toes.
Good knowledge
They can't close shop! Not until my dream of a pillow fight between Evelyn Taft and Liza Fernandez is realized.
