Just got back home from civic center now. It was funny hearing that reverend talk about liberty and justice for everyone when he's against same sex marriage, douchebag.
Mimosa's, waffles and O-Bam-A!!!
What's with the French tricolor draping the screens? Liberte, egalite, fraternite? Que?
It's called "bunting." HTH
Les bunting sont formidable!
Questions for SF taxpayers to ponder:
1. How much did this cost?
2. Who paid for it?
3. Would there have been a celebration if the other guy had won?
here we go again
TYAM has some credible curmudgeon competition. Keep it up, Ed Anger Jr. ;-)
Ha! No one is angrier than me. NO ONE!
I was down there this morning and judging from the crappy little screen, the poor audio, and the poor planning (e.g., a blue tent and those hideous Civic Center trees blocking MY view), I can safely ascertain that it didn't cost much. The organization that put it on is NextArts, a non-profit that sponsors those annoying free concerts in the parks the masses flock to because they're too cheap to fork out for a ticket. So, don't worry, Ed Anger, Jr. As usual, your tax dollars didn't pay for shit.
I skipped most of the presentation because some idiotic Art Institute of San Francisco hipster students standing next to me kept yattering away, smacking their gum, and I had to split lest I unleash righteous violence upon their skinny jeaned asses. I took their photo ala that unfortunate Jameth creature and will gladly vilify them on my blog later today.
Dude, it would have been a *lot* funnier if you named yourself Ed Anger, Sr.
1,2. It was paid for with sales of bottled sweet, sweet neocon tears.
3. I'm sure we would have done the same had Nader won.
OK, it's been over an hour and we're still in Iraq and the economy is still in the toilet.
for real! Guantanamo is still open. Impeach Obama!
Bah! Yet another pointless ceremony signifying nothing. I cannot possibly understand people getting so excited about the inauguration.
Not to mention, of course, that he doesn't really seem poised to do much of anything. Well, aside from giving away even more money to the financial companies that is.
For some of you kooks there who could not hear
Original Obamanease: And to those nations like ours that enjoy relative plenty, we say we can no longer afford indifference to suffering outside our borders; nor can we consume the world's resources without regard to effect. For the world has changed, and we must change with it.
TRANSLATION: We're sorry we have created wealth for ourselves, and we will now proceed to lower our standard of living and stop producing and consuming so much. We consume too much of X, and we're having some kind of nebulous, nameless effect on the world/planet/climate due to our consumption of X (where X=energy/oil/natural resources/food/consumer goods/everything and anything).
We'll just be what you all want us to be, because being all free and prosperous is just, like, too hard and stuff.
Prove me wrong, Your Holiness!
Original Obamanease: What the cynics fail to understand is that the ground has shifted beneath them - that the stale political arguments that have consumed us for so long no longer apply. The question we ask today is not whether our government is too big or too small, but whether it works - whether it helps families find jobs at a decent wage, care they can afford, a retirement that is dignified. Where the answer is yes, we intend to move forward. Where the answer is no, programs will end. And those of us who manage the public's dollars will be held to account - to spend wisely, reform bad habits, and do our business in the light of day - because only then can we restore the vital trust between a people and their government.
TRANSLATION: I know I only several months ago told you to "get in their faces" and argue about politics at every and any opportunity, but now I'm asking you to pretend that doing that is really reprehensible. Once you win an election, my children, you become free of all of these trivialities. The real question here is not, "shouldn't we encourage a little more personal responsibility among ourselves and institutions;" the question is rather, "is the government sufficiently grafted into every portion of your life yet, and if not, where are we coming up short?" Worthless government programs and entitlements will be continued and expanded, so worry not. We will only release and promote statistics, outcomes and results as they are convenient for us to use politically, and all other assessments of our governance shall be buried.
Ahhh, I can feel the hope and change already :-)
Your entire comment is nonsensical, but as to the second part, have you ever heard the term "sore winner?"
It's a cut and paste attack. "I know I only several months ago..." Dude, you're writing, not speaking.
