San Jose City College Starts Campus-Wide Smoking Ban

San Jose City College Starts Campus-Wide Smoking Ban.jpg

Initiating one of the toughest city college smoking bans, San Jose City College has kicked off an extreme no-smoking ban. In addition to the typical smoke-free rules inside of all buildings, the ban also includes all areas outside of classrooms and in student gathering areas. That is to say, you can't light up anywhere at San Jose City College. Ever. This tough ban on cancer-causing delight was sparked after San Jose City College administrators received numerous complaints from whiny students about "having to endure clouds of smoke coming from smokers near the classrooms."

It has always been this way, supposedly. I was there a few years ago and there was "no smoking allowed" anywhere on the campus. It was just not enforced well. I wonder if they'll enforce it this time?

As I write this, my eyes are watering from the smoke coming from the neighboring fire department's barbecue. Ban barbecues!

Save for one small area throughout the whole campus (which they will eliminate after this semester), it's the same way at USF.

Lame! Back in the days when my parents were in college, folks could light up right in the classroom! They even built ashtrays into the desks for the student's smoking comfort! Red meat on the plate, scotch in the hand, cigarettes in every clamped down maw! No one had to worry about these infernal humorless, wheelchair bound, lesbian, animal lover, anti-perfume activists whining about patriarchal oppression all over the place and sucking all the fun out of existence as we know it! Those were the days!

Eh, SJCC is already a high school for people of drinking age, this ain't no stretch.

de anza has had this for a long time now. but you can still smoke pot. ell-oh-ell

oh yea i forgot to add that the side-benefit is that it makes the place that much less social.
