Something Happened... But What?

20th & Mission
When we see five police cars, half a block cordoned off by crime scene tape, and a bicycle laying in the street, we think, "this can't be good."

Photo snapped at 20th & Mission at about 7:30 last night, just a few feet from where Armando Estrada was gunned down in July. About an hour earlier, gunshots were heard in the area -- the legendary "epicenter of crime" -- about an hour earlier. But no mention of anything in the papers or on San Francisco Crime.

I walked by at 7:30 and they were taking photos of a dozen or so evidence markers scattered on the sidewalk to mark (I *assumed*) shell casings. Since nothing showed up in the Chronicle, that must mean nothing happened ... right?

Eh, 20th is the border between red and blue gangs. It's where EVERYTHING happens, or within a block or so, if the unfortunate miscreant should happen to tread on opposing territory. It's exactly this kind of violence that I am not at all afraid of.

hell. when did it migrate all the way up to 20th?

judging by the grafitti 20th is accurate.

like manys said - this type of violence is not fearsome. But really, most acts of violence are between people who know one another.

Damn right... we non-gang members have nothing to fear from the Latino gangs that infest the Mission. Just ask Mrs. Bologna.

Johnathon,

Since this is at 20th and Mission just call Ritmo or Pete's, they'd have the skinny.

i rode by around 7:10pm, and it looked like a car accident. besides the bicycle on the ground, there was a driver sitting in a white RAV4 (or similar) who seemed to be involved/waiting for the cops.
