BBB in...Malaysia?

Beach Blanket Babylon bar

We were on vacation over the holidays (what, you didn't notice? Shame!), tooling around southeast Asia, and we saw the above. Who knew that everyone's favorite tourist show was doing spots on the other side of the world? Afterwards, we settled down with a local beer:

Anchor beer

We didn't know that our heroes had created a pilsner for sale only in Malaysia. Huh. What else are they hiding?

On the way home we considered an airport breakfast in Bangkok:

American Breakfast?

Yes, they are offering bacon-wrapped hot dogs. For breakfast. Wow. We weren't tough enough, and opted for waffles instead. Weak? Yes, but our digestive system is thankful.

Oh god. Another white guy just back from "tooling around" Southeast Asia. Please don't make me look at your flickr page.

Fortunately there are no automatic redirects from sfist. You'll be spared, this time.

BBB is an embarassment to our city. I went once (under moderate duress)about 7 or 8 years ago and was shocked by how horrible it was. Nothing but easy, tired jokes that perpetuate ridiculous stereotypes and misconceptions about San Francisco. That many of the players seemed to be wasting legitmate talent made it all the more difficult to endure.

I had the exact same experience.

And then I looked around and saw all these people next to me, laughing, having a grand ole time.

There's also a restaurant called Beach Blanket Babylon in London, in Notting Hill.

"Anchor was first brewed in Singapore over 70 years ago using German technology and brew masters. Anchor's value-for-money positioning and its refreshing and signature crisp taste have clearly struck a chord with drinkers in over 10 countries in Asia."
