Oakland Police != BART Police.

I actually feel good about this. A half-decent mini-riot! Flaming cop car (nearly), a few windows kicked in. The kids need to riot. It's good for society. Of course if it were in my neighborhood and my no-claims bonus was affected then I'd be outraged. But it wasn't, so yay! This sort of behavior is usually wasted on college football games. At least they've got a real reason this time. Standing on a cop car is a right of passage. Plus, is that a rioting Santa? Awesome!

Ak!..that picture of the Riot Cop looking at the dude in the hoodie... that's me in the hoodie! I wasn't 'rioting', I swear!

Wagnerian, you've got a witness (in a good way). If you haven't already, go read the caption posted with the pic on Flickr.

I can't tell if he was waiting to taze you, or give you a big bear hug.

Actually, he was kind of hot.

@fizzandpop: No, instead it was my neighborhood they trashed. Your comments tell me exactly how very mature and intelligent you must be. Berkeley resident, perhaps? Where do you live? I'd like to trash some cars myself, starting with yours.

i can't imagine threatening the vehicular condition of an sfist commenter is a choice way to go about getting any kind of justice, avantard.

In order to make an omelet you have to break a few eggs. Sucks but it's true; look at the bigger picture.

And my neighborhood gets trashed a couple of times a year for no good reason other than frat boys wanting to twat about in costumes. You have though, paid me the ultimate insult. Berkley resident? That's grounds for a duel at dawn.

Blunderbusses, or blunderbae, whatever the plural of blunderbus is. Elephant guns.

I want to know if any of these police have ever heard of deescalation. Because when I'm thinking of the best way to ensure that a protest of police brutality doesn't turn violent, the last thing I'd recommend is for your police force to show up decked out in riot gear ready to crack skulls.

@Brock: It would be pretty hypocritical of me to actually damage someone else's vehicle, no? I was simply pointing out that cheering on the destruction of someone else's neighborhood is really, really douchy by providing dome douchery of my own.

I'm just a big subscriber to the safety valve theory. And if a bunch of insured businesses lose a few windows in the name of justice, so be it. I'd rather have my motor trashed for a reason than by some dick thinking I've got the Crown Jewels in my glovebox.

so.....attacking Black owned businesses, setting cars owned by Black men on fire (a Lexus - bet they thought it was The Man's) yelling misogynist slurs at Black women, and harassing Asians is a valid way to protest.....the murder of a Black man. WOW. How did whitey manage to dodge that bullet?!

Collective anger isn't pretty! It's horrible, terrifying, lower-class, and completely necessary.

You're complaining that black kids attacked black businesses? I don't see your point. And it's a riot luv, not a knitting circle.

@fizzandpop: I choose you, Pikachu!

fight the power.. we need more of this shit everywhere and for all sorts of reasons

Let's burn down Gavin's place in Pac Heights and see how many thousands of SFPD, CHP's, SWAT and FBI show up to put the kibosh on that little roasting party.

Let's face it, nobody gives a rats ass about Oakland, even the death defying geniuses who chose to live there and their mostly retarded buffoon of a mayor. The black Newsom.

Can the City of Oakland sue the protesters for $25M because their non-violent activity had a sudden, unexpected violent outcome?
