I don't understand why people are in a tizzy about this. Tradeshows are dinosaurs.

Steve was right: they reach more people in different ways these days. Apple gets great mileage from its own events (product announcments, the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference) and venues (e.g., Apple Stores) and they have total control over content, disclosure (or more accurately non-disclosure) and timing of announcements.

If you want to feel the "Apple community" fuzzies, just go to WWDC in the summer.

I wish! No, the Amish cowboy is actually Andy Ihnatko, tech writer, Burger King Gold Crown card holder and ubiquitous presence at any and every Apple-focused conference.

I'm so glad that I was not the online one scarred deeply by Sinbad's presence.

I forgot MacWorld was here. There was a time some years back that it was a good conference: you could learn stuff, check out new technology, meet people, network... now it's gone downhill, and I actually applaud Apple for pulling out after this one.

I remember 2 or 3 years back, the entire expo floor was rubber and neoprene iPod sleeves, headphones, and various useless iPod accessories. The year after it was more of the same, but a smaller area of the floor (after all, iPods got smaller).

Each of these years, Apple announces some piece of hardware that doesn't really revolutionize anything anymore. Then they say they're updating their mediocre software suites and charging. I don't want to pay $80 for more themes in iDVD, thank you.

I've been a Mac and Apple user since the mid '80s when I got my Apple IIGS, and I'm getting sick of their crap. I have trouble even defending them to my PC-using friends anymore. Not that I'll switch, but still. MacWorld? See ya. I'd be happy if you left SF forever.

Yeah but it looks like Bocephus was there. "Are you ready for some MAC-WOOORLD?"

Why are twats with ridiculous facial hair always smiling at themselves in that smug way that makes you want to smash their faces in?

MacWorld is even more irrelevant than those blogger conferences.
