SFist Tonight

What in heaven's name are you thinking going out tonight, the night before New Year's Eve? And unless you're in rehab or hitting the pipe, don't even think about calling it "amateur night," unless you want a surprise visit from Candy Finnigan.

But for those of you who want to start early, be our guest.

MUSIC: Punk-influenced Sex Vid, a Seattle-based "four-piece, armed with homemade cassette releases and a handful of 7"s," will croon a song or two in the Outer Mission this evening. The seem to be quite popular, so showing up early is encouraged.

9 p.m. // The Knockout (3223 Mission) // $6

FILM: Note to SF cyclists: even when her bike is stolen, Poppy remains optimistic and painfully cheery. Check out Mike Leigh's latest gem, Happy-Go-Lucky (2008), to brighten up your night.

6:45 // Roxie Cinema (3117 - 16th Street) // $9.75
