Cool. After decades of smokers around me deciding for me whether or not I'll be smoking on any given afternoon, now the city gets to decide where they can't buy them. They'll whine, but the turnabout will be lost on them.

at the risk of raising the ire of everyone, I'll say that any law that makes it even slightly more inconvenient for even one inconsiderate asshole to blow smoke in my face on the way to work gets my approval.

More BS from the BoS trying to get large companies out of SF. First they kill the bag thing for everyone except small businesses. Now they are removing another thing that a company which pays plenty of taxes, can legally buy. How about we prevent people from selling drugs before we prevent someone from having a smoke? Oh that's right, I forgot...this is the same board who tells the police brass how to police, so why not tell people what they can or cannot buy and where? Again...telling people how they should live their lives 'whether they like it or not.'

I quit smoking, and I'm glad for that. However, I agree this legislation is a steaming-hot pile of Chris Daly-esque dog shit. The Shell station on the corner happens to sit atop thousands of gallons of gasoline, but they are free to sell as many smokes as they want? Whew, I'm so thankful the BOS look out for my safety and well-being every day.

You'll excuse me for saying so, but this piece of garbage legislation is nothing but a bunch of bullshit. If Chris Daly and his ilk were really so concerned with protecting the health of humanoids in Six Flags San Francisco, they'd not just ban cigarettes for sale, but the aisles full of Applets and Cotlets, Circus Peanuts, and Almond Roca that Walgreen's also peddles to the public. After all, we do have a fatso epidemic raging across the nation at the moment. Of course, you don't see that many planets with hair rolling about this city outside Fisherman's Wharf, so the candy aisle must have dropped off their radar. This brings us to the real reason they banned smoking - aesthetics. They don't like the way it looks and they self righteously think that because they were elected to office they have the right to legislate lifestyle choices. To hell with that. They should spend more time worrying about scraping turds off sidewalks and less time interfering with other people's recreational addictions. Stupid. People in this town are so hyper conscious about outward appearance that mere peer pressure is enough to stop people from smoking in public outside designated areas. This town...

That was a reasonable basis for prohibiting sales in stores such as Walgreens while allowing them in other stores that have pharmacies, he said." Wha?

I believe Walgreens also sells hammers. Welp, for a while there it was a pretty sweet deal. I was still smoking, this ordinance was wending its way through the courts, and I could go down to Walgreens and pick up three boxes of theater candy for $3 and two packs of American Spirit for $7 or so. Ten bucks for a weekend of lowbrow hedonism ain't bad. Thanks Walgreen's, you fought the good fight.
