Serial port-o-potty arsonist on the loose

We'd belying if we said that this budding news story doesn't tickle us. It does. Very much so. See, the SF Port-o-potty Arsonist has struck again. It seems the charred remains (hee!) of a portable toilet were, yet again, found on Sunday morning, this time at the intersection of Jackson and Franklin streets in Pacific Heights. SFPD are still on the lookout for a serial port-o-potty arsonist. The toilet infernos, which happen at night and injure no one, haven't caused any serious damage. The last potty blaze hapened on December 6 on teh 1500 block of Vallejo Street.

Harmless until the smell of burning shit hits your schnoz.

Not necessarily harmless. The same arsonist hit the port-o-john in front of my place at Hyde & Filbert over Thanksgiving weekend with a Molotov cocktail. The only real damage is the blue plastic goo that is now melted onto the sidewalk and the smoke damage from where the fire charred the side of the building. However, firemen told us that we were lucky that the bottom floor of the building was brick, which prevented the whole building from catching fire.

And I'm sure the chemicals used to neutralize our excrement and the like probably shouldn't be draining into the bay...

Right. A portasan, which is made from finite resources in the first place, costs some entity $120, plus the cost of SFFD response which undoubtedly is several times the cost of the portasan, plus labor cost cleaning up the mess, toxic smoke in somebody's neighborhood, spilled chemicals, spilled human waste. But it's all worth it because an SFist correspondent is tickled by vandalism. If goddam Monsanto or Halliburton shat on an SF neighborhood like this, you'd scream about the mindless unforgiveable rape of the planet.

Portasan sounds so much classier. like it's Japanese.

Response to zstone.

Sure isn't harmless to the San Francisco Porta Potty Companies that pay $600-$1500 for those porta pots.

You might say I was being glib.
