Film du Jour: Nameless, Emotionally Abandoned, Baby Gorilla

The first gorilla birth in over a decade, this little tyke plays "a contributing role to the conservation efforts taking place for this critically endangered species through the Association of Zoos and Aquariums Species Survival Plan (AZA, SSP)." Wee.

Monifa, the baby's mother, an endangered western lowland gorilla, is having trouble taking to her newborn. The mother has ignored the baby since its birth. No word if the father, Oscar Jonesy, is stepping up to the proverbial plate.

I was all set to write something about how we shouldn’t anthromorphise animals, even those we share more than 95% of our DNA with, and then I watched the video. How could any mama not want to hold little cutie!
