People were losing their jobs, having their homes foreclosed, and eating out of garbage cans long before those people decorated their house. People will be losing jobs, their homes, and eating trash long after the lights are turned off. The decorators didn't cause the problem, can't cure the problem, and probably *do* donate to all the appropriate good causes. Those of you who don't like the lights stay the hell away and let the rest of us enjoy the festive sight.

Oh yes, let's estimate the earth-hating energy consumption of the display. From the picture it appears that the lights consume no more than 2,000 watts. At $.10/kWh that's $1.20 worth of crushing environmental destruction per 6 hour day. The gas-burning cars idling on the road in front of the house are far worse. People who are upset about the energy use of this house, but took an electric MUNI bus or train recently, should simply shoot themselves in a guilt-riddled fit of realized hypocrisy. Let's not worry about the caulking around the cabin windows when the Titanic is sinking.

the economy is going to become the 9/11 of the left. seriously, every time anyone consumes anything or does anything recreational, are you going to start going on about the homeless eating out of trash cans? the show must go on, guys. 10 years from now your not going to be proud of the fact that you tried to cancel christmas.

that house looks SO MUCH better in person than it does in that picture. they paid a lot of attention to detail, and overall it's done in very good taste. usually any house with half as much decoration looks like a regurgitated christmas tree, but these folks did a fine job. it seems they turn off most of the lights after a certain hour. so what if they're not saving the world? for all we know, they are. christmas decorations are a part of life; at least someone can do it right.

People are losing their jobs left and right, starving in the streets, too poor to afford baggies in which to stash the turds their dogs leave all over the sidewalks and these tacky, nouveau riche cretins have turned their home into some kind of beacon to deepest, darkest outer space that's sucking up half the available electricity in the Western World? How many polar bears will drown this holiday season as the ice floes they're hanging out on melt due to the carbon output necessary to keep this technicolor abortion up and running? Hah?! Do the house's owner(s) donate even a fraction of the time required to set up said multicolored merry miasma or the money required to keep it lit to volunteering and/or charity in this recession'd holiday season? If no, it's not only tasteless and light pollution, it is indeed so excessive as to be offensive (obscene). People are eating from trash cans less than a mile away from that festering open sore.

I think it looks better than most christmas displays because it appears to be mostly white lights and green stuff. A truly tasteless display would have colored lights, flashing lights, and cheap animatronics. This place doesn't look like it belongs on the Vegas strip.

@Jas: Turning ones house into a blingee is not tasteful, regardless of whether it's in the city or in some soulfree suburb someplace. I suspect that you should be imprisoned along with the owner of the house, his/her family, pets, etc. Sorry for you.

It's actually quite tasteful, particularly in the daytime, compared to the xmas vomit that one has to wade through out in the suburbs. Another nearby good one is the brick palace up on the corner of Masonic/Upper Terrace/Loma Vista.
