=v= Bikers don't know where the emptier cars are going to be until the train arrives (duh). And when the train does arrive, we generally have to scurry to the nearest legitimate seat before somebody else grabs it. There are only a handful of seats where we're allowed to be with our bikes, but they fill up fast because they're the ones nearest to the door.

All the bikes and bikers in this photo are in legit locations. The bike on the right is the only thing I'd quibble with, but the way to handle that is to ask its owner to move it out of the way, not to put up yet another passive-aggressive blog entry about it.

Fortunately I live in a Yurt made from switchgrass grown in my nominally sized yard, fertilized by my goats (which I feed by renting out for weed control, taking them to their jobs in trailers towed by my bike, and I never eat the goats), and my computer is solar powered and the motherboard sits bare on the table I made from driftwood, eschewing a plastic case. I ride on the roads that were paved with oil but am doing so in protest because I prefer dirt.

And there was a bitchass traffic jam on 101 this morning because we were outgunning the freeway traffic - on our bicycles.

BICYCLING: A QUITE STATEMENT AGAINST OIL WARS BUT ONE THAT DOESN'T REALLY MAKE UP FOR THE FACT THAT 95% OF MY LIFE IS SPENT ACTUALLY SUPPORTING OIL WARS, BECAUSE LIKE IT OR NOT, I AM AN AMERICAN CONSUMER AND EVERYTHING I BUY REQUIRES OIL IN ITS MANUFACTURING AND TRANSPORTATION. NOT TO MENTION THE FACT THAT I'M A TAXPAYER, PART OF AN OIL-BASED ECONOMY, AND A CONSUMER OF MORE NATURAL RESOURCES THAN 99% OF THE HUMAN POPULATION. BUT THIS SIGN AND THIS BIKE MAKES ME FEEL ALRIGHT ABOUT IT BECAUSE, ACTUALLY I DON'T KNOW WHY REALLY. OH YEAH, I'M EDUCATING YOU ABOUT THE ERROR OF YOUR WAYS WHILE BEING BLIND TO MY OWN CONTRIBUTION TO THE THINGS I STAND AGAINST.

So, Jameth, did you stand up for the safety of your fellow passengers and put those inconsiderate bicyclists in their place?

Or did you just write about it on your passive-aggressive livejournal where your cyber friends could get your back?

Yeah, I thought so.

Apparently you've never taken a bike on bart. It's just as big of a pain in the butt for the person taking it as it is for everyone else.. It never quit fits right. They never have a bike amount of space on the sides of the doors for the bike. If you put it there it blocks one of the walkways. Plus you never know if there is already a bike in that car until you get onto the car.

You could also go onto the first(it's only the first car.. http://www.bart.gov/guide/bikes/bikeRules.aspx) in the train if you don't want to be around the bikes. If you don't want to be around you could move instead of complaining.

@jameth why did 3 bicycle riders need to wait at the same entrance when they got on?

are you sure they all got on at the same station? sometimes bicyclists waiting on the platform end up on a train that already has bikes on it. sucks, but that's the way it is.

also, bikes are prohibited from the 1st car only. they are allowed on the last car.

@jameth why did 3 bicycle riders need to wait at the same entrance when they got on?

just a guess, but maybe for the same reasons why people that aren't getting off transport any time soon create this immovable dumbfound around the exits?

As a rule, It seems people who define themselves as cyclists, literally or otherwise, are generally insufferable assholes, riding selfishly yet smugly preaching about how good they are for cycling.

In this case, though, who the fuck cares. There's three lousy bikes there that can easily be moved if someone needs to get out.

I'll rehash everything I said on his LJ:

* Barreling down the platform with your bicycle, knocking old ladies out of the way to try to find the one car with room (before the doors close) isn't going to work
* Pushing your bike down an aisle which is probably crowded with people and bags, only to try to hold two doors open and squeeze it through to the next car also isn't going to work

So deal with it, Jameth.

yeah, this is a pretty insignificant thing to get bent out of shape about. 3 bikes in an otherwise empty car is an "overload"? really? and yeah, it's kinda hard to move to a different car with a bike - those doors can be a pain. if you want more space then YOU move to a different car.

chill out.

You should be happy they have parked their bikes instead of trying to run you down. Apparently you have forgotten that cyclists are morally superior to you in every way. If you are inconvenienced or injured by them, it was your fault.

Bikes and public transport? These people must be "the poor" I've been hearing all about.

Wow, three whole bikes in a half-full (half-empty?) BART car? We'd better call BART police.

Oh, and Generic -- bikes are prohibited from the first and last cars, not limited to.

Sometimes a car will have a bunch of empty seats, but the entrances to the car are totally blocked by groups of people with their bikes. It's annoying, but I try not to get pissed off, because I think it's great that people are biking instead of driving.

Other than Jameth's keen sense of composition being so assaulted I don't see a problem. Except of course in the unpredictable predictability of an emergency. And I'm thinkin folks might have a tough time escaping death with their feet intertwined with spokes.

oh for crying out loud. 75% of the seats in this photo are empty. This isn't a "rush hour" anything, and Jameth wasn't blocked from getting out. (There are 9 cars, but there are also 2 doos on each car).

Save your venom for someone who needs it, like someone trying to go through the tube with a bike during the actual rush hour.

I thought the bikes were supposed to gather in the front or the last car during rush hours.

The announcement over the loudspeaker says something like that. I always tune it out.
