Tomorrow is Yelp Day, Declares Newsom

yelpday.jpg

Jeremy Stoppelman must be beaming.

Mayor Gavin Newsom has declared December 3, 2008, tomorrow, Yelp Day in San Francisco. [cue church bells, angels choir]

Sure, you can turn your nose up at the Yelp ilk - or whine about their alleged mafia-like tactics - but Yelp really has changed this city in many ways, giving a voice to the average pretentious foodie while keeping business owners on their toes. So: congratulations, Yelp.

We will not hold our breath for a proclamation of SFist Day. [cue sad face]

Update: It never happened. Alas. Sorry, Yelpers.

Can we have an official Douche Day? Please?

Where is the link to comment on Gavin as mayor?

Gavin cannot declare an official Gavin Day, cv.

Yelpers are cheap, unfunny and self-important.

I thought every day was SFist day.

As a former waitress, I couldn't care less how clean the restaurant is. Believe me, you're taking a risk every time you go out to eat.

Crap service? Bad/overpriced food? THAT I want to know about. Thanks Yelp.

I'm mad at yelp for denying my RSVP to their holiday party. I guess that's what I get for often reading, but never writing a review.

Tomorrow is the Yelp Holiday party/wank-a-thon at the Exploratorium. Barf. Those parties are such a festival of douchebags congratulating each other and desperate for free food and drink.

"...desperate for free food and drink."

you say that as if it's a bad thing.

Ohhhh, I see. Then the denial of my RSVP was a blessing then?! Or are you just venting cause your RSVP was declined as well?

No, its not a bad thing! I will be in attendance, I'm a total douchebag myself.

i couldn't get on the RSVP list as well. too late on my end. alas.

well.

Bad service = bad tip
Unclean restaurant = food poisoning

All yelpers I've come across are basically Soulja Boy choreographers: http://fiturl.com/0jR

In honor of Yelp Day, douchebags and douchebagettes get half-priced drinks at Medjool (if they promise to give four stars).

I hate that term: foodie. What does it even mean? People who love food, as oppose to people who hate it?

Foodie is really the current pop-culture version of the word "gourmet," and yes, it describes a person who has a deeper interest/knowledge in food vis-a-vis the average person (who may be perfect content eating McDonald's and Lean Cuisines).

Hobbyist, aficionado, and connoisseur are all synonyms in this case.

For whatever reason, the term "gourmet" has seemingly fallen out of favor in the past few years.

I want want a way to filter out any yelp review that has the word hipster in it

and derek comes in with the yelpster backlash!
