Mayor Gavin Newsom Gets Himself a YouTube Page

Following on the heels of other YouTube stars such as Chris Crocker and the Chocolate Rain guy, Mayor Gavin Newsom continues to harness the awesome power of the world wide web via a nifty new YouTube page. (New-ish, anyway. It says he joined in October.)

Today's Chronicle manages to muster up an astounding 900-plus word article on it, fellating "the tech-savvy mayor" and his latest way to getting his message out to a wider audience. (That is to say, this is all a part of his attempt to transition too Sacramento.) Not only will his YouTube cinematic masterpieces allow "wonky, long-winded Newsom to leave no detail on the cutting-room floor," but will also allow him to dive deeper into topics like ending homelessness and panhandling, improving the food stamp program, universal health care, turning Market Street medians into urban gardens, creating a local carbon fund, and other critical but zzzz-y stuff.

Newsom, we should point out, also pens for Daily Kos, the Huffington Post, and Salon. Not to be outdone, his wife, Jennifer Siebel, once wrote for SFist as well.

Anyway, you can check out his State of the City Address here. Newsom, Nathan Ballard, and staffers from the city's Department of Telecommunications and Information Services (?!) just finished up these videos at the new Academy of Sciences at 1 a.m. this morning.

But the not so great part of all this is that both the comments and ratings have been disabled. Boo. (You know we'd give your sharp features and momentum a five, Gavin. Bah.)

They were finished up last Monday night at 1am (not your fault for the confusion- that sentence in the Chronicle was oddly written)
The Department of Technology is the organization that SFGTV is part of.

Ahhh yes, the neo-con artist's tool....Youtube.

Now if only he had a professional videographer that knew about white-point and simple, basic lighting that's flattering, then this might be worth watching. If for no other reason the hilarity of the thing.

Dimes to donuts these were converted from pro-Beta--speaking volumes on how tech savvy he really is.

Disabling comments is lame.

They're really trying to sell Mayor Gavin as this "tech savvy" guy, but having a Facebook Page and a You Tube account is something any teenager can do.

It doesn't hurt that both girls and boys just adore Mayor McDreamy, so he's an easy sell online.

Meanwhile MUNI's burning and crime is up. But hey! Mayor McDreamy is on The Internets! YayyyYy!

Uh, I wonder if Gavin didn't know that sfgtv has been putting these videos online since 2004.

too dumb to be governor. who would watch a Youtube of him that long? Time to SOLVE the problems and not just talk about them for hours.

My slow (and cheap) DSL line likes YouTube video streams a lot more than whatever is used for SFGTV. (shrug)

for a good laugh, click on the link above and fast forward his hand movements. He should have sat at a desk with them tied behind his back.

cmon Plug1 where you at? your boi needs some followers in his Utube circuit. where's that "stick-to-it-tive-ness" the Gav is so known for?

This has nothing to do with copying Obama. Nothing at all. SF Gate totally didn't embargo this story until after Obama's first couple of addresses got good reviews.
