MSM Stays Silent as SF Murder Toll Tops 100

While it made headlines last year, this year's passing of San Francisco's 100th murder, happened in early November, made little buzz in the mainstream media. As of last night's brazen North Beach murder -- where Richard Barrett, 29, was shot in the back and killed while trying to enter Fuse -- has the city of San Francisco at 103. So, since we're well ahead of the curve from 2007, why hasn't the mainstream media make mention of this?

because rational people don't believe in numerology.
because the msm / sfist only really care when the victims are not black and latino males
because the announcement of said number doesn't do anything to solve the murders

(choose one)

Because Heather "no arrest have been made" Fong is shitting her pants and wants to keep her job?

gotta agree with perique. if there 100 white dudes killed, then it's be BIG news. A few latinos here and there, so be it, as long as it's not in pac heights.

I just read an article in today's Examiner, stating at least twice that the count was at 95 murders.

as long as they (latinas) don't give a shit about themselves or anyone else. then fuck em

Yeah, the Chron also puts the number at 95. I dunno where SF Crime gets their numbers, but it doesn't seem like the official count has crossed 100 yet.

I laugh all you SAN FRANCISCANS so proud of your city, and 100 people murdered? You must be voting in morons to run your city. Heather FONG should be fired and Gavin needs to get off the blow and hairspray... another loser Liberal city

@spysea: If you stop drooling on your keyboard, it'll stop shorting out your shift key.

100 murders in San Francisco? Wow. You people are slow. We passed that months ago. You all need to get on the ball.

@spysea: Are you saying liberals are soft on crime? Because the Nazis were socialists, and they weren't soft on crime at all.

This is the SF Crime guy..I get all my numbers from the SFPD. The SFPD has reported 96 murders to the Chronicle (including today's murder in North Beach). That number rises to 97 with 1 murder being investigated at Ocean Beach, by the US Park Police, as it's under their jurisdiction rather than the SFPD's.

The remaining 6 murders I have counted were all taken from the SFPD's own crime reports map, which is linked from the SFPD web page. The confusion comes when the SFPD then doesn't report them to the news. So which is right? The number on the SFPD's site, or the number the SFPD gives the news? My number of 103 includes all murders reported by the SFPD in some form so far this year (taken from the news, and the aforementioned website). Another thing that makes it confusing is the fact that you can only look at crimes 90 days back on the website, so the 6 murders on there don't all appear anymore...then there's the fact that some murders appear on the SF Gate map, as provided by SFPD...but then they don't even appear on the SFPD's own map. I guess such inconsistency is only expected from a police department that has so many problems, but it's what leads to confusion like this.

Let's just say 2008's murder number is at least at 97 for SF.

oops, sorry about the double post

@Xenu: I'm not defending spysea, because he/she sounds like an idiot, but you need to check your facts.

The Nazis were fascists, not socialists. Fascism is the extreme right wing (reactionary conservative) whereas socialism is on the left (communists, a la Stalinism, are seen as the extreme left wing). Though some would argue that fascism and communism are both totalitarian first and foremost (and therefore their leanings on the political spectrum don't matter as much), the Nazis were NOT socialists - they wanted to exterminate the left.

And yes, even though 'Nazi' is an acronym for National Socialism or the National Socialist German Workers Party, that does not mean they were socialists.

Close the thread. Godwin's Law is in full effect. (That was fast!!)
