Police are viewing the blast that shook San Francisco's Sunnyside neighborhood Monday night as an accident. Although illegal fireworks were found in the house's garage and rumors swirled about possible mischief, police still aren't sure what caused the explosion. The arson team at the scene ruled out any criminal activity. The blast - which blew off all but the top two steps on the staircase leading up to the second floor, as well as much of the lower front of the building - sent two residents to the hospital. Both are listed in critical condition.

did anyone else hear the two huge explosions in Duboce Triangle last night? WTF was that?

I'm telling ya, they really need to check the logs to see if PG&E did any work in the neighborhood recently.

Remember back in the late 90's when the 3-story building in the TenderNob exploded and disappeared, and three people died after PG&E did some gas-line work? It was reported they were responsible on page A14 about 6 weeks later, on a Friday--aka take out the trash day.

There have been other similar incidents over the years, including the exploding underground transformers. These are generally reported as mysterious circumstances based on vague portrayals on the part of police and fire departments and quietly reported later as PG&E fuckups. Folks, we have some of the most professional, best educated and informed fire personnel in the world. When they officially shrug and say "we don't know" it's usually bullshit.

I live directly across the street. Depends on your defintion of recently-- but there's been no PG&E work here in recent memory.
