We thought you might like to know that SFist shot a photo of your protest sign on Saturday, which landed on the front page of Digg yesterday. As of this posting, it has gotten 5,563 Diggs and has been viewed 214,384 times on Flickr. Your sign brought up some great dialog. Our favorite comments:
"I just had a sargasm."
"Obamafont for the win."
"Yes marriage is an institution ....it amazes me people actually want to join it!"
"{Update: At least this sign calls to attention how ridiculous the "institution of marriage" is in this country. With the 50% divorce rate, and all the negative connotations of 'marriage' you'd think we'd be okay with people who actually want to give it an honest shot.}
To me, gay marriage is more real than straight marriage. They actually care enough to fight for it. If you can't say that about your own marriage, you have no place denying it to anyone else."
"The designer in me is asking: why does the second half of the sign change to green?"

Week Around the Ists

Bad designer, no glo stick.
i thought this was the best:

The comment about "more real" is inane and neither here nor there in regards to the issue. It's impossible to parallel the two situations, so don't bother and just concentrate on other strengths of the movement.
Also, telling heteros that their marriage is "less real" by default really isn't going to win the cause any support.
The green font is totally Mr. Yuck green, which goes along with "miserable."
Aventinus: There was more to that first comment that you referenced, which I had cut for brevity, but I added it to the post with an update just now.
"Don't Be A Gaycist"
Saw that one this weekend by the Opera House.
How about this for a sign: "When was the last time you fought for your marriage!"
One of my favorite bumper stickers seen in DC: "Marriage for Everyone. Share the Pain."
I like that idea, FNREEDIE because even with the complete text that Leanne added back, the "more real" is still nonsensical.
Well, I'm straight and married, and I wasn't taking the comment so literally. I don't believe my marriage is less real, but I acknowledge that it is easy for us heteros to take marriage for granted sometimes.
My favorites were:
