Self-consciously insane Nancy Pelosi opponent, Cindy Sheehan, is running for US Congress. Or something. Yeah, we kind of forgot about that as well. Most likely, she won't stand a chance of winning over the more powerful and controversial Pelosi. But, by God, her plunk, spunk, and phobia to hair conditioner will keep her in the public eye after tomorrow.
Alas.

Well she definitely has the homeless vote. I live in the TL and at least 5 homeless people have asked me, "you're voting for CINDY right?!"
You know, I bet if you educated yourself on Sheehan's policies --- universal health care, marriage equality for all, ending the war, spending money on schools instead of bailing out banks --- you might actually find yourself supporting her. She may be a little wacky, but she hasn't given up yet. And for that, I commend her.
Also --- making fun of her hair? come on!
everydaycaitlin: i agree with a lot of what Sheehan supports, but the thing about her is that she has hardly any experience aside from being a very outspoken activist. she hasn't even lived in the district she would be representing for all that long (just a few years). i just don't understand why she thinks she's even remotely qualified to take Pelosi's seat. i guess she's running on the whole "people not politics" idea, but SOME experience might be nice.
all i can find about her is that she ran an afterschool program for at-risk children. i did the same thing when i was 18 y/o! Oskarv for congress??

I voted for her. you can diss and make fun but you know what. what made Palosi not qualified was that she was in bed witht the bush crime familly. why did she take impeachment off the table? well its because she knew about the spying (didn't it take place in SF?), she knew about the tourchure and the tourture tapes. she was in bed with them the whole time. So if you ask me what make Cindy Sheehan more qualified and expeirenced it is simply the fact that she isn't NACY PALOSI. So make fun all you want but you get the government you deserve.

Pelosi is an asshole who cares more for her party's grip on power than she does for doing the ethically and morally right thing or even her constituents - 99.9% of whom are assholes too. Even though I knew that Sheehan didn't have a chance in hell of taking this office and I don't support her single minded focus on ending the war, I voted for her anyway in protest of Pelosi. Consider the 17% of votes she received to be warning shot across Pelosi's stinking bow.
The war is still on, I imagine Sheehan will return to her pre-election activities of trying to end it. Duh.

And as long as it is, I will be putting pressure on my elected officials to do what they can to end it. Including, in this case, voting for Cindy Sheehan even though she never had a chance of winning. Pelosi needs to be doing more.

I voted for Sheehan. Not with any enthusiasm: she's a terrible candidate and would make a terrible congresswoman. But Pelosi is a disgrace, and needed to be run out of town on a rail for her repeated capitulation to the Bush administration on every issue of substance for the last two years.
It would have been really really nice if someone with some name recognition and some balls/ovaries in the SF Democratic Party had decided to do the right thing and throw down a primary challenge to Pelosi.
