Interview: The Spinto Band

The road to recovery post Halloween should probably include a strong dose of Bay Area pride and a dash of Delaware’s finest. Half-handed Cloud (Oakland) and The Spinto Band (Wilmington) are playing Bottom of the Hill tomorrow night. Wear your costume (or what’s left of it), and let the pop help you recover. As extra enticement the guys from the Spinto Band answered a few questions for us. One thing we could all probably agree on in this election: saying yes to MC Hammer.

What is your favorite song to perform these days?
On stage? Well, as far as our songs Later On is a fave of mine, but we have been covering the song Brazil recently and that is a blast on stage.

What is the lamest crowd request?
We used to cover Tommy James and the Shondells' song I Think Were Alone Now, but we often times get people requesting that Tiffany cover we do. It's not a Tiffany song in our book.

What is the most rock and roll moment you've had?
Sitting in a car for 12 hours only to emerge and realize you don't know what state, time zone, or hemisphere you are in... That and signing a girl's boob.

What is your favorite band/ musician from the bay area?
Tom is a huge Half Handed Cloud fan and Nick mixed the new album from SF via Wilmington band The Chop. We are also good buds with The Olde Fashioned Way and musician Jonathan "Game Jew" Mann. All in all though our favorite bay area musician is MC Hammer.

Do you have any San Francisco stories?
One time we went on an Itsits run at 4 am as we were told Itsits would rock our world. This was the second time our world was rocked in SF, the first was when we drove by the Full House home.

People should come see your show because?
Oh man- that's a tough one. They should come out because we need someone to talk politics with on the eve of this election and feel like San Fran will be a good vent-zone.

What music do you listen to that sounds nothing like yours?
Oooh lots I suppose. The best example may be Sam's fever for underground hip hop. I wish we sounded more like Cannibal Ox or Del, but they do their thing, we do ours.

Not exactly going to pull in the ladies, are they?

I saw them open for the Arctic Monkeys back in DC and they were way better than the Arctic Monkeys. I like Spinto a lot. New album is good fun.
