This has got to be one of the best Craig's List job postings in some time.
It comes from Matador, an "innovative" peer-to-peer travel website, linking up writers, photographers, artsy folks, etc. etc. to talk about all things related to travel, writing, photography, and treks to Patagonia because you just cashed out your company stock.
Apparently, the economy has been somewhat kind to Matador, and the start-up is starting to get more people onto its payroll.
Listed on Craig's List is a position is for social media and viral marketing ninja. The very fact that ninja is used in the job title is little too-cool-school for us, but we'll just let that one slide for the moment; the implication here is this marketing position is kick ass.
But don't take our word for it. Let's let the company speak for itself.
The following is taken from the actual job posting:
Why is this position so awesome? The skills you will develop at Matador Network will make you a certifiable "social media and viral marketing expert." This is a skill set sought after by the very best companies, from venture backed start-ups who need a popular blog with lots of traffic, to blue chip media companies looking to do more online. You will be working directly with our CEO and senior editors while basically managing our entire online presence. This will be an incredibly valuable experience for the right candidate.
Suh-weet. Sign us up!
What do we need to do?
"MAKE SURE TO INCLUDE WHAT YOU'RE CURRENTLY DOING NOW, HOW MUCH TIME YOU CAN DEDICATE TO THIS JOB EVERY WEEK."
And…
"HOW YOU'RE PLANNING ON SURVIVING IF WE DON'T PAY YOU FOR A COUPLE MONTHS."
You think they really want to know? Or is that just a rhetorical question? Because we want to ask Matador the same thing.

Week Around the Ists

Would it be impolite of me to approach the CEO and puncture one of his lungs for thinking that this is acceptable?
that is pretty typical of the postings on CL for any kind of writing/art related work.
Welcome to my world - if you check out the web-design projects on Craigslist I would say that well over half are for "non-paid interns", "students", or "people interested in building their resumes".
I dont know what kind of entrepreneur honestly believes that they are going to have an intern or a student build them a "clone of ebay" for free. These kind of posts tell you everything about the company making the request, and they should be avoided like poison!
what singlewall said. right on! :-)
