Over 100 Sex Workers Arrested

sharonStoneginger.jpg

In Oakland, Concord, San Jose, Campbell, Milpitas, Morgan Hill, San Mateo, Santa Rosa, San Rafael and San Francisco, more than 100 people were arrested as a part of a nationwide prostitution sting. The arrests occurred over a three-day period last week, using everything from classic street-corner busts to modern-day Craigslist searches. FBI and Bay Area fuzz will give us all the lurid details during a news conference scheduled for later today. (SFGate)

Sharon looks so cute in that outfit!

thank god they busted those people! sex is filthy and wrong!

I don't think it's racist or sexist but it is a victimless crime. And although I've never participated in either side of the transaction, I don't think it is mine or anyone's place to judge the people who involve themselves in this activity. I'm also not naive enough to think that all sex workers are participating completely on their own accord. But legalization would only give these women the security to do something about it rather than having to live in fear of both their situation and law enforcement.

This was part of the big nationwide 600 person arrest wave, which also turned up 47 children who were being used as prostitutes.

Was it sex workers, or pimps that were arrested? Or is pimping sex work?

pimps and prostitutes. (i think pimps fall under the sex worker umbrella.)

Pimps aren't technically sex workers. They are more like sex managers.

On the TV news this morning they were reporting this as a child prostitution bust.

phyaor: well theoretically it could be a victimless crime, but the way prostitution is today there are plenty of victims....the prostitutes themselves are often cooerced at a young age into prostitution by pimps simply for growing up in a bad neighborhood. the average age of a beginning prostitute is 14 y/o, and many times it wasn't their choice, they were forced into it by pimps.....also tax payers in general are victims because pimps and prostitutes are making huge profits and not paying any taxes on it, which is unfair......proposition K doesn't take care of either of these problems. they should just legalize prostitution, regulate and tax it, and then at that point it'll be a victimless crime.

I'm sure the timing of this bust was absolutely coincidental.

All people are required to pay taxes. Even the mob is required to pay taxes on their illegal businesses. They often go to prison for tax evasion, not for their other crimes, like murder, etc. Many sex workers already pay taxes. They just tell the IRS that they do massage. The problem is that they pay taxes, but get no rights.

Great photo choice, Brock ;)
