sfrealist: My metal millinery is staying in place for the time being. Only last night I was watching the American Experience on Reagan, and was reminded of the Bush family/Hinkley family connection. Nothing is off the table for these people.

@sfrealist: It is not kooky to realize that there are people, incredibly filthy rich and related by blood and corporate ties, who have plans that span longer than the four- and eight-year spans of any particular US presidency. Hell, *I* have a 20-year plan - why not the global cabal?

sfrealist: Right, there's absolutely no reason to doubt the motives/plans of our government whatsoever. Maybe if we hadn't endured 8 years of Bush's undercover wiretapping bullshit, I would agree that fizzandpop's go the tin foil hat on a little too tightly. But after this past 8 years, I'd say anything is possible.

The skit was okay overall, but mostly stupid. I too did a double-take when they introduced "Miguel," but ultimately I figured that they didn't bother to find out who Nader's running mate was at all (and wouldn't know anything about him even if they did). I'd like to think that had they done even a smidgen of research that they would have gone a different direction (or better yet, eliminate the VP reference altogether as it was the stupidest part of the skit), but I guess it's a moot point.

Indeed, Brock. I seriously doubt anyone outside of San Francisco really knows much about Matt Gonzalez. When I saw the skit I figured they were trying to go for a Senor Wences thing, but just not very well. SNL got a little life support this fall, but that doesn't change the fact that it's only got maybe 30 minutes of material, tops in any episode.

As I was watching the skit, I was looking foward to a mention of Matt and was momentarily jarred by what seemed like an extremely racist caricature. Then I realized that most people outside SF, including the writers at SNL, have no idea who Matt Gonzalez is.

@steveconn - Boy, I wish I could have your optimism, but I would never count out the Republican machine until a Democrat is actually sworn in. These people will stop at nothing to get and hold on to power, so counting the chickens now is foolhardy in the extreme. That being said, even if an Obama victory was a sure thing, I still wouldn't vote for Nader. That just encourages him.

even w/ an Obama victory in the bag (we hope) a vote for that ticket would still represent a repudiation of the course we've taken over the last 8 years. A large margin of victory would still mean something.

C'mon Steveconn. Nader has run twice and gotten increasingly more embarrassingly small percentages of votes. I hate to break it to you but his campaign has nothing to do with issues and everything to do with his ego. If he was serious, he'd be the head cheerleader for somebody who could fire up the left-wing.

With an Obama victory in the bag, an Obama vote becomes a "me too," waste of time. Ralph and Matt are for something. The Depression is real and so are they. Ralph and Matt want to tax speculative trades. "Share the wealth." Yes, that is really what they are about. We can't let Obama slide to the Clinton Center and not end the war or not extend living wage and unemployment benefits. Election night will be fun, but that Party will be over and reality demands Nader and homeboy Matt Gonzalez.
