(Update) Bart Employee Hit On Concord Tracks Causes Train Delays

bartlogothing.jpg

After a Bay Area Rapid Transit employee was "badly injured" after being struck by a train, Bart service has been stopped between the Lafayette and Concord stations. The accident happened at about 9:35 a.m. this morning. According to the Gate, a BART worker "familiar with the situation said the worker who was hit was not breathing when emergency personnel reached him." More details to come.

Update (12:55 p.m.): The worker died later this morning. Our condolences.

Also, westbound trains are being turned around at Concord, eastbound passengers must change trains at Lafayette and catch a shuttle, which will take you to the Pleasant Hill station. "There is no estimated time for a return to normal service."

Why does it take over 3 hours to get a body off the tracks? =( If this were the London metro they'd have him off and trains running again in minutes.

Or for that matter, when someone is hit and killed on the freeway here, priority is given to getting traffic flowing again and getting the body out of the lanes.

Why do we shut down our train systems for hours on end when there's an accident? =/

Fatal accidents require a more thorough investigation than injury accidents. This is true on the highways too.

have some respect sf hope. a man dies and all you worry about is returning trains to service? how inconsiderate can one be?
