Jenner Headlands Almost Preserved

The Jenner Headlands -- that gorgeous, relatively untouched stretch of coastal land a few hours north of San Francisco, where "the Russian River meets a Pacific Ocean" -- is a breath away from being preserved in what's being called "the largest conservation acquisition in Sonoma County history."

Six agencies and nonprofits have come together to purchase the 5,630-acre headlands property for (a cheap!) $36 million. The Sonoma County Agricultural Preservation and Open Space District will put up a third of the money, with the rest of it coming from Sonoma Land Trust, the state Coastal Conservancy, the California Conservation Board, the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
