SFist Tonight

FILM: John Schlesinger's 1975 film of Nathanael West's 1939 novel, The Day of the Locust, features three awe-inspiring moments: Hollywood in the '30, the divine Karen Black, and a terrifying 20-minute finale. This classic about "alienation and desperation of a disparate group of individuals whose dreams of success have failed to come true" screens in the Castro.

7:20 p.m. // Castro Theatre (Castro & Market) // $10

MUSIC: At first we thought this was a screening of the best crazy-miner-who-murders-people-in-caves horror film to date. Alas, it is not. My Bloody Valentine is some seminal, Important, '80s UK band that the kids (young and old and really old) love. Anyway, they're playing tonight. If their alt tunes are your bag, then have at it.

8 p.m. // SF Design Center (101 Henry Adams at the Galleria Building) // $47.50
