Guys, this is not a Corbin Sparrow. The "MM" logo (Myers Motors) on the hood is the giveaway. Dana Myers bought the Corbin assets in 2003 after the latter company failed and filed Chapter 7.

About the laws, it's all correct: --The vehicle is legally considered a motorcycle. --It does not need a front license plate. --Since it is a three wheeled vehicle, the operator does not need a motorcycle or moped license. A class C license is OK. I haven't seen one of those in a long time. I wonder how good the battery is now.

jimH: It should be fine in the HOV lane. Remember that the HOV lane generally allows for any one-seat vehicle, as by definition, it is fully occupied. Even in HOV lanes that require 3 or more passengers, usually a two-seater with two people qualifies since it is fully occupied.

I stand corrected. So it's a "motorcycle" but you don't need no motosickle license and you don't need to wear a helmet? I cry foul. It seems the authoritahs generally go easy on manufacturers who have a "good" intent. Something like the airbag waiver for the ridiculous electric Tesla Roadster.

Not quite, jimH. The code reads: 11713.17. (a) Following the retail sale or lease of a motor vehicle for which the department issues two license plates... This thing, being legally a motorcycle, is only issued with one plate. Otherwise, bah to this thing. Bah.

Oh, and the California DMV issues one (1) motorcycle license plate to these vehicles. California motor vehicle code specifies that you must display all plates that were issued. If you only get one plate, it goes on the back of the vehicle (just like motorcycles). This vehicle does not require a front license plate.

It's a Myers NMG ("No More Gas"). The San Mateo County Sheriff's Department has one they display at community service functions. It has a fully functional light bar and siren. But no room for a handcuffed arrestee!
