Supervisor Michela Alioto-Pier is Insane

italian%20food.jpg

Taking time off from doing whatever it is that she does, whimsical SF Supervisor Michela Alioto-Pier announced that she wants Dodgers coach, national celebrity, and North Beach fan Tommy Lasorda ousted as grand marshal of the city's Italian American parade on October 12.

No, we're not kidding.

Alioto-Pier (vulgarly) tells the LA Times, "We can't have Tommy Lasorda come to San Francisco for the Italian American parade ...He's like enemy No. 1 right now. If you don't think this is important, you should move to L.A."

In a bizzare twist, locals are probably more upset at other things right now than whether or not a former Slim Fast spokesperson sits atop a tacky green, red, and white float during a parade.

But what about you? Should you "move to L.A."?

Jesus.

I loathe Alioto-Pier. Clearly she snapped something besides her neck when she fell out of that ski lift at the age of 13, because she makes the Palin Down Syndrome baby look like an up and coming rocket scientist. She's the biggest whiner the BOS has ever seen and should worry more about doing her actual job than this nonsense. I hope Chris Daly yells at her and makes her cry (again).

Also, I don't need to move to LA. Alioto-Pier needs to move to LA and be left stranded in the middle of the intersection of Pico and Rivera (or wherever), the batteries ripped out of her conveyance.

Was she drunk when she said this? Insane....

I never agree MAP about anything, but she's right about this. Lasorda won't let anyone affiliated w/ the Dodgers celebrate Halloween because it has Giants colors.
Is there really anything so wrong with (childish) Civic Pride?

Quimby

Yes, whenever I disagree with the board of stupid-advisors, my first thought is "Gee...I should just move to LA."

More likely this is just her bat-shit crazy mating call. After all, it is that time of year.

Ah, you Daly-era arrivistes may live here in The City, you may have even worked here in town for most of the two or three years since you left college...but you will never be San Franciscans.

request to all:

please, let's keep this focused on their actions, not their personal lives/bodies.

thanks.

salty, not everyone is an import.

She's absolutely right on this one. Shouldn't be that hard to find an Italian-American with San Francisco ties to replace him.

It's not like Tommy is being forced upon the parade. The parade committee must have INVITED him to be grand marshall. The effort to remove him probably reflects some petty politics within the parade's sponsors that has now been elevated to a civic matter. Ugh!

I don't have anything against Mr. Lasorda, but there's e like, a LOT of prominent Italian Americans one could have as Grand Marshal from right here in the city or in the Bay Area....

Angry Young Man owes me $3.99 because I just knocked over my hippie vegan butternut squash soup in sheer shocked joy...

Everyone who isn't named Alioto is an import. Don't you know anything?

Aren't there more important things Alioto could devote her time to such as our school system, transportation, and safety? I wish she put this much energy into her non-Lasorda-bashing activities.

They never should have even considered Lasorda. Whoever got him is either pathetically ahistorical, or has a highly highly hiiighly-refined sense of irony.

That is, could we be thanking Tommy for all his years of qualitative villainy? That'd be awesome.

I'm an A's fan but hate the Dodgers/Lasorda for 1988. Still, I wouldn't give a shit about him being grand marshal for the parade.

At least there'd still be a Columbus Day parade. In Berkeley, all we've got is Indigenous Peoples Day.

bookyak...

Thing is, Tommy would be booed. Loudly. As is the tradition since 1976. It's a tradition that he revels in as much as we do. So if you want a bunch of booing your float, and him egging it on, go right ahead.

This cities native to transplant ratio is out of balance

I love transplants and the energy and ideas they bring (without them we would be Pittsburgh by the Bay) but we no longer have any living history here

Its Sad (to me at least)

And I would hope (and am almost certain) the Alioto-Pier thing is tongue and cheek

The whole thing is an inside joke and in good fun.

none at all?

well, loads of people i know are from here. bernel heights folks, so you know they come with extra muy authenticoness.

While I can see the idea of wanting someone from the local community for the parade if this is just some sort of bullshit over baseball well... get over yourselves. Not everyone else cares about your silly little sport and Junior High level rivalries.

#23

Sure some

Point is in NYC or Chicago an equivalent tradition such as you have described would not be a source of confusion to anyone

Like I said I am sure the whole thing is part of the inside joke that has been going on for the last 30 years

Here I can hardly find the 49er game on in some Mission bars on Sunday these days. If people like #24 had their way we wouldn't even have sports teams any longer
