SF Examiner Endorses McCain-Palin
The mentally-crippled folks over at Examiner endorsed John McCain and Sarah Palin yesterday. We blame witchcraft.

I figure it's something like tossing a dart at a wall. The lesser of the evils is neither McCain nor O'bama.
Are you f*ckin kidding? McFailin?
What the hell is wrong with these people?
we prefer the term "mentally challenged."
freaking hippies.
Let's see ... local paper with 3% readership selects a controversial republican candidate for president in one of the most liberal towns in the country.
Ya think anyone will notice?
oh, the examiner: so that's who's been dumping litter on my stoop.
there is a McPile of over 200 Examiners in the door way to my building.
i use them when i shave my head to keep from clogging the sink.
Who owns the examiner these days?
Oh, right.
Surprised face goes here.
They should be checked for third nipples like Anne Boleyn.
That was the fucking stupidest thing I've ever read. Why did they blow their wad with an endorsement this early? To get attention, obviously. They're going to look really stupid as McBush's campaign continues to flail.
What a sad, pathetic endorsement it was, and as mentioned above, look who owns the paper.
What a fucking joke.
Yeah, what the fuck. Their endorsement essentially just copies text from his website. The only criticism of him is framed as "friendly closing advice". And statements like "he will veto all earmarks and other pork barrel spending" just make them seem naïve. All earmarks? The President doesn't have a line-item veto, so that seems like quite a challenge. I'd be similarly suspicious of a statement like "Obama will bring health care to anyone who wants it." Sure, he'll try, but it's awfully bold to make such a claim.
That should do wonders for the credibility of their other endorsements when they inevitable oppose Props B (affordable housing) and H (clean energy) and support the conservative candidates for Supervisor.
Endorsement by the Examiner: a kiss of death second only to endorsement by the SF Republican party.
the reason for the endorsement is spelled out quite clearly on the opposite page of the editorial in the print version. It's an ad from the Heritage foundation. The Ex gets his moneys from the GOP wingnut welfare advertising, so it's quite natural they'll endorse their candidate.
I can't link to the heritage ad, but I took pictures here
I already ranted on this topic on my blog ... www.RinconHillSF.org
How can anyone endorse a ticket with Palin on it when she's only talked to three media folks over the last 4 weeks about being VP? Nonsense.
I saw that today and couldn't believe it..
@Plug1 -- I keep puttin' those thurr
Dan is right.
The reason the Ex endorsed McCain Palin is because it is owned by a right-wing billionaire.
They get Heritage Foundation ads because of the owner (and it probably was a buy in all the Exes with DC being the major target).
I'd be surprised if the San Francisco staff had much if any input.
Ok, they didn't. The same endorsement ran in the DC Ex

You'd think that they would just let the SF paper endorse Obama. It isn't as if McCain will get one additional vote in San Francisco because of the endorsement.
And even more people will now try to get the Ex to stop delivering to them now.
The SF Examiner is a real newspaper? When making my choice of reading material for current events down at the coffee shop, I usually go with The Onion over the Examiner.
I guess we know how she won the all-important crackpot vote.
Ummm, it's just now that everyone is realizing that the Examiner is run by a right wing billionaire nut? Really? The whole purpose of buying the Examiner and then making it free and more ubiquitous was to give people decent local news coverage (the low price teaser to get them into the store) and then sneak in conservative viewpoints in the editorial section (the real product). So remember, read the Examiner at your own risk - the local news stuff is decent, but any op-ed stuff is highly suspicious to say the least.
Wow. Bill Gates looks horrible in that video. Is he sick or something?
Heh. I just saw an ad in the Ex the other day for a crackpot "Platinum Fuel Saver" that's supposed to increase your mileage. It was one of those ads that masquerades as an article. I though, gee, how low can they go...
All y'all commenters already caught-onto/knew the Anschutz connection stuff.
Freedom of the press belongs to those that own them.
Sad but true. I wanna be a despotic publisher! I think it'd suit me.
Mentioning it just encourages their acting out.
I live on the peninsula, and no matter how many times I call and tell them we don't want their free papers, they ignore me. They eventually blow all over and create the ugliness they are.
Eh, the only times I've read the Ex lately was when waiting for MUNI without a book, and I was done reading the ingredients lists on the food wrappers blowing down the street.
Even then it's about a ten minute read mad and five of those minutes are all ridiculous editorial comments and thinly disguised advertisements like the one mentioned above.
The comments here are great:
"jamie wrote,'Obama is a better man' wow! That's a powerful argument. The Examiner may need to reconsider."
That's my axe killer ex-girlfriend ... pay no attention to her
wtf with newspapers endorsing candidates anyways? so much for unbiased journalism.
oh, right...
BRAVO AND BRAVA! THE EXAMINER USES LOGIC, INTELLIGENCE AND NON-EMOTIONAL JUDGMENT IN CHOOSING MC CAIN & PALIN -- NEWSPAPERS ENDORSE CANDIDATES ALL THE TIME -- AND MORE AND MORE ARE ENDORSING MC CAIN & PALIN AS THEY REALIZE HOW CRITICAL A TIME IT IS FOR THIS COUNTRY TO HAVE LEADERS WHO PUT AMERICA'S VALUES FIRST - NOT HOLLYWOOD AND ENFORCING THEIR LIBERAL IDEAS.
