Scenes from a San Jose Gun Show

Jameth, he sees things about the Bay Area that most of you block out. While some of you go on and on about some concert on an island, some incestuous political ramblings nobody outside your social solar system gives a shit about (no links; too many links from which to choose), or yet another damn Frank Chu sighting, Jameth squeezes inside the Bay Area's underbelly where most of us fear to tread.

Take, for example, today's gun show in San Jose, which he attended. While a gun show seems like one of the most fun things to do on a Sunday afternoon, we assume most of you would curl up in the fetal position after viewing the images above. Enjoy.

What makes this not so unique is that it goes on all over the country and yes, the vast majority of those who support such ideals and icons are Republicans. On that we can all agree. Go digging into the Palin family unit for further proof.

Hell, drive east for about an hour down I-80 and you start to run into the land where this is not only acceptable but expected.

Racism is as equally deplorable as multiculturalism. Think about it before you jerk your knee.

Wow. If they had snacks at concession stands they were probably HFC-sweetened, MSG-laden, trans-fatty globs of olestra-sodden yuck in paper bowls... you know, food for thought, like the bumper stickers.

"I WILL FORGIVE JANE FONDA WHEN THE JEWS FORGIVE HITLER."

I kind of like it.

Ahhhhhhhhh!

Hell, drive east for about an hour down I-80 and you start to run into the land where this is not only acceptable but expected.

An hour? Oh honey. Traffic into the East Bay isn't THAT bad.

I watched high school football in the San Joaquin Valley on Friday. In two weeks, I'm going back for a visit to the Altamont Raceway (yes, THAT altamont).

Real America isn't that far away, hippies.

Though what's up with that first photo -- was Jameth running while shooting?

I love the pissy eagle on the "any questions" bumper sticker.

Also: WHY did they put an "I enjoy insanity" bumper in amongst the pro-gun stickers? That doesn't reflect well on anyone.

Actually, the last photo with the Hitler photo is actually very Pro-American and Pro-Freedom. Read the caption:

"Political Prisoners and Concentration Camp Don't Exist Without Gun Control...To Save America from these Nazi-lovers, we must destroy gun control"

As San Franciscans are paranoid about Bush taking over America via the Patriot Act and the wiretapping laws, I'd assume San Franciscans should/would freak out if Bush tried to take away American guns as well.

I for one can see the value of an armed civilian population as the last and final "check and balance" for the government...any government in an country.

"Second Amendment: Defender of the Rest"

If only! Where the fuck are you gun nuts when important shit comes to light, like how all net traffic is routed through that place on Market (very tired, don't remember if that's the right location?) and mined through? Why aren't they storming Wall Street? Teensy pathetic flaccid dicks.

KatyG: ask Obama.

KatyG, that would be the former PacBell/S.B.C./AT&T office on Folsom Street. Not sure where the NSA wire taps are currently being done, tho.

For all the stuff that shocks us, S.F. has their own share of stuff that makes right wingers cringe (or energizes the opposition -- e.g. Folsom Street Fair).

KatyG, don't forget the flacid clitori too. Y'all can't just expect the boys to take care of everything for you.

Sweet! Did they have the little pink triangle patches for sale so I could slap one on my shoulder?

sure the pic of the table full of nazi flags is shocking, until you think about all the WWII obsessed collectors there are out there. I have known several liberal/progressive history buffs out there who own nazi flags that are part of a collection of items on display in their homes.

It becomes even less shocking once you go to any gay event in the city of SF and see all the leather boys wearing all their nazi/facist inspired outfits or see the racks of leather and fetish porn that also seem to be a tribute to "the master race" and the "brown shirts"

I also had the distinct pleasure of going to college with Matthew Hale and have seen organized white supremacists up close and personal ( nothing like waking up to a death threat before heading off to class ) So I personally don't take the use of images like swastika's lightly.

And, is it just me, or does the bumber sticker "4 boxes protect out freedom: Soap, Ballot, Jury, Ammo" show a better understand of the bill of rights then most US citizens seem to have?

I like the "Four Boxes" sticker as well.

I also own a beautiful 1930 .38 Special Officers Edition Pistol. It's a lot of fun to shoot and in great condition. A lot of the weapons you see at gun shows are part history, part work of art. It's kind of sad to see all the hate directed at these folks who largely represent the responsible gun owners of America. It's not like this is a Gangland Gun show or anything. The people who attend these events are in it for the collecting, or because they enjoy target shooting as a hobby. I say get off their backs and leave them alone.

This site is fast becoming the Jameth-ist.

@ zippy: Am I still too hung over? I don't get it.

@ malcove: Thank you for the correction.

@ travin: Good point, but to be honest I would be surprised to know that there was even one uterus in that hall.

And honestly, I'm not shocked at the gun nuts at their convention. I just want the people who purport to be powerful to use their power for good instead of evil. Yes, as defined by me.

So I guess we were supposed to draw the conclusion that people who like guns are Nazis?

Ask small business owners in Oakland who carry guns to protect their businesses from takeover robberies if they are Nazis.

@scopa: well, to be fair, the Columbine kids got someone to buy their weapons for them at a gun show that did not perform background checks. The lack of an instant background check requirement/waiting period requirement is how a lot of people who shouldn't possess weapons obtain them. Not that I care, I'm just saying.

@katyg, it's more common that you'd probably expect. Besides, you need something more to attract customers than the strangely comfortable conversation centered around "that's a really nice piece you have."

Yikes! Collectors or hateful bastards, the sight still makes me cringe ...

The debate about gun control aside, I think that the flag next to the Nazi flag belies the "its only for collectors" reality.

The fact that they are comfortable with the Nazi flag at their gun shows, proves they are America haters.

I like when gun shows are coupled with doll shows. It makes for fascinating people watching.

The sticker that scares the shit out of me is the "When in doubt EMPTY THE MAGAZINE" sticker. It seems to be advocating a "shoot and ask questions later" approach to problem solving.
