Music & Muzak

The next week or so is one of those crazy and magical times when there are so many great concerts going on that you should probably consider forgoing sleep entirely. Below are a few of our picks to help guide you through these crazy times. We’ve also been racking up the music interviews, so make sure to check them out in the coming days, we’ve got Built for the Sea, Ledisi, Herbie Hancock, Heavenly States, and Jose Gonzalez on the schedule—in addition to our archives with many of the acts at Treasure Island.

Tonight:
If hip hop, soul, or funk are your thing, check out Ledisi at The Warfield. She’s local, and she’s blowing up these days.

Another local band worth checking out tonight is Built for the Sea—they’ll be at Slim’s releasing their new EP. Pretty, pretty music.

Friday:
Herbie Hancock (who had to cancel his SF dates recently) is at the Mountain Winery in Saratoga. Watermelon Man!

Fleet Foxes are at the Independent—if you’re one of the lucky few to have snagged a ticket, get ready to party with the pretty, pretty indie kids.

My Morning Jacket plays the Greek Theater in Berkeley. Ohh, that voice.

Saturday:
The Treasure Island Music Festival begins. Catch a shuttle at PacBall Park (or whatever they’re calling it these days). There’s a lot of good bands, our picks for the day are Loquat, Chester French, Foals, Hot Chip, GoldFrapp, and TV on the Radio. Tired yet? Good, make sure to hit the Tilly and the Wall after party at Mezzanine.

Sunday:
Day two of the social experiment on the island. Hopefully you’ve been hydrating like mad. Time to win over that indie idol you’ve been eyeing. Pay extra attention to Fleet Foxes, The Morning Benders, local favorite, John Vanderslice, Okkervil River, Vampire Weekend, and of course the Raconteurs (the were so good at Bimbo's a few months ago) and Spiritualized.

Monday:
Work? What? No. You’re going out. The Heavenly States and Spoon begin a three night stand at the Fillmore. Yes, ga, ga GA!.

Tuesday:
Jose Gonzalez begins a four show two-night marathon at Yoshi’s. Extra credit for seeing his early show and then catching Spoon’s set.

Fine. You can go home and sleep now.

"In an effort to give our fans the best show possible, we'll be starting our shows at the showtime listed on your ticket, and below. Please spread the word to your friends and family coming to the show to get there early. Love, My Morning Jacket"
