Political Adviser Robert J. McCarthy & Progressive Leader Peter Camejo: Dead

The man who helped land Senators Dianne Feinstein and Barbara Boxer, Attorney General Jerry Brown, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, former Mayor Willie Brown, and other lunatics on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors died this past weekend. Robert J. McCarthy, a lawyer and lobbyist (and if he was born later, he most certainly would been a local blogger) succumbed to cancer on Sunday at his St. Francis Wood home. He was 61. In related deceased-politician news, Peter Camejo, "one of the nation's leading progressive voices," died at the age of 68 on Saturday. (SFGate, SFBG)

Robert McCarthy was a member of the country club where I used to work. He was a straight shooter and a good tipper -- a real favorite of the employees. This is very sad news.

Cancer is hella butt.

Bob McCarthy taught me how to smoke Cuban cigars on the observations deck of a train car when I was 15.
Obviously...awesome.
So sad.
