Maybe the picture is actually working in reverse. The two light colored squares lead up to the dark square, meaning, "Hey, what if you could rewind and not have thrown that cup into the Bay?" Too bad you already did, I guess. Maybe next time.

@kmsinsf: you are exactly right. and the cup-makers KNOW this. it's dual purpose, first it holds coffee, then it feeds dolphins.
