American Football Spectacular: Annnnd That's Game

a_smith_bye_lolcat.jpg

That's it.

QB Alex Smith was officially put on the injured reserve list today, effectively ending his time with the 49ers.

After losing his job in the preseason to UCD's-own J.T. O'Sullivan, something came loose in Smith's already-surgically-repaired throwing shoulder and now he's out for the year.

The rub is that the size of his contract precludes keeping him on the team next season.

Elsewhere, his draft rival (Cal's) Aaron Rodgers looked fine in quarterbacking the Packers to victory on Monday night.

Sigh. What a waste -- of a guy's potential, of a first overall pick, of the faithful's goodwill.

If any fingers can be pointed to a particular thing that kept Smith from progressing as a QB, it's the dithering of the 49er front office. Four offensive coordinators in four years is a tough row to hoe for any quarterback.

Well, yup; that sucks, Alex. Good luck wherever you end up.

Alex Smith and his mother are really into the issues facing foster children, especially, the ones that turn 18 and face dire circumstances.

They were very vocal about the work, and gave money, fundraised and gave his time. I think he may have been adopted(?)..

(he still wasn't a very good QB though)

...tough "row" to hoe. You know, like in farming.

not much of a story, but i would like to meet him IRL.

farewell, alex. sniff.

The Vitamin Water people have to be a little less than pleased.

@manys

Woops, colloquialism failure. Not sure what I was thinking. Thanks for the catch.

I'm starting to notice a building ratio of sports oriented stories to gay oriented stories.

Oh what am I saying? That's crazy talk.

@ travin

Yeah, we haven't had a lot of sports lately. That's prob'ly because we haven't really been covering the Giants or A's since they're too depressing right now.
The Niners & Raiders are a new, exciting form of depressing at this time of the year.

Also, there's no reason why you can't have both sports-related-glee and gay-related-happiness at the same wholesome time: http://boifromtroy.com/archives/alex%20smith%20shirtless.jpg

You're welcome.

Yes, that's sorta the inside joke 'cause most folks think they're either separate or that one compensates for the other. Either way you get beefy guys in skimpy, sweaty clothes grabbing each other's butts and loudly vocalizing when they reach their goal, minus the bad synthesizer soundtrack.

The good news is that JT was a god over at UCD
