Crime Wave Peace March Tonight

Prepare your candles, mourning attire, and faces full of fear. A peace march is happening tonight in the Mission district, so that everyone can collectively be all WTF regarding the "wave of violence that has alarmed residents and prompted increased police presence" in the neighborhood. Hosted by Mission Education Project Inc. and the Lower 24th Street Merchant & Neighborhood Association, concerned citizens will gather at 6:30 p.m. at 24th Street and Treat Avenue. The march is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. sharp. Aside from making people feel better, we're not sure what this will accomplish; but stay safe out there during the march, people. (CBS 5)

dude, is it really necessary for you to make sarcastic comments about everything?

Protestor dude, SFist is the witty, hipster rag that we all love. What did you expect? New Yorker type articles?

MisterDarcy,

No, I don't expect the New York f'n Review of Books. But I try to find out timely info from this site, and this year that is all about crime in the Mission, where I live. The march is being done by good people for a good reason, and if you think it so lame and hopeless, man, you are, in the words of my son, a dootyhead.

Also wrong, Brock. The TV trucks were lined up to film it for the evening news. Only thing Newsom will pay attention to. We've got some beat cops on 24th now and we need more. So the only question you need to answer, Brock, if whether your asshole is large enough to shove all your snark up it. My neighbors and their children are getting killed

i do not understand why white people continually move into working class minority neighborhoods, displacing other longtime residents, gentrify other residents out of being able to afford to remain there, and then start complaining when said minorities resent them and act out. however i see they are keeping the tradition alive of ineffectual media-whoring gestures for liberal activist cred.

Hep, you think these murders are resentful residents "acting out?"

Hep, this is not about gentrification. It's about Latinos getting shot and the murderers who get away with it. Nobody wants people murdered in their hood. This was a march attended by 240 people of every color who mostly have lived here for 10-30 years.

We don't want activist cred. We just want people to stop killing each other in our neighborhood and for people like you to stop trying to hijack the issue for some freaky gentrification fantasy.

moseman23, do tell me all about your butthurt, please.

also, no, there isn't enough room. alas.

Marches are a nice thought and it helps people bond together, but the only thing that will work is arrests and convictions folks. Old Gav needs to work on some new laws..... Join a gang... go to prison. Clean up the streets..... Jobs for the homeless, cleaning up the streets... standing guard, reporting suspicious activity, instead of sleeping off a stupor in a doorway and begging for change. Arrest gang members, stop drug sales by setting up stings to arrest drug dealers and their prey.
Come on Mayor, driving around the mission district on a Friday night is worthless , you should have been at the Opera with your insignificant other! :0(

We thought Brock's post here was pretty funny and perfectly snarky despite the fact we helped organize this march.

@hep: let me understand...you are mad at white people for moving into "your" neighborhood because it is causing "said minorities" to kill other "said minorities"?
