More Murders Hit the Streets of SF Last Night

utah%20and%2024th.jpg

Just a day after Hell's Angels bigwig Mark Guardado was gunned down at 24th Street and Treat Avenue, the Mission/Potrero district again played host to two bouts of gun violence.

First, at around 9:45 p.m. on 24th and Utah streets near Jack's Bar, two men were shot and killed.

Then, two hours earlier at 18th and Bryant streets, two people sitting in a parked car (along with a 4-month-old child) were shot. The two victims were whisked to SF General Hospital "by friends" and are currently being treated for life-threatening injuries.

No arrests, as most of you have already guessed, have been made.

another day, another reason to love our having moved from 24th and Folsom to Lower Haight. that gun business is for the birds, man. fuck it.

I'm in UR Mission

Shootin' shit up

Killing people is lame. What a bunch of lamers.

I live in this area..and it is getting really scary. 9:45pm, really?

Fong is well on her way to a hundred murders this year. I think we are at 70 now. Go FONG!

good thing the police are kick-ass at stopping jaywalkers and cyclists. glad to see they're going after the real criminals.

this happened on the front door step of my work. there have been a bunch of media here throughout the day, and despite rumors, detectives are not releasing details. it's a sad scene, and i wish i didn't have to stare at it all day. i hope the two young men found peace. stay safe, guys.

I live in that City. It is getting scary! People who cause violence to other people are having violence done to them? Oh noes!

greggers: you missed out on a completely appropriate "killin ur doodz."

I'm calling out the Chronicle, Police Chief Fong, DA Harris, Supervisor Ammiano and Mayor Newsom. Normal hard working people of all colors and incomes are living here trying to raise families. You all need to start helping the Police here NOW.
DA Harris - Stop letting the criminals here go free before you try them. Chief Fong - Send more police here now, not after more months of 'studies' and step up your 'investigations'. Supervisor Ammiano - Stop talking about how we are hurting and get us more beat cops to meet the people here. Mayor Newsom - Move resources to our understaffed police force here. No matter how many bus stops you put grass on, this crime wave can cost you the governor's race.
SF Chronicle - Start truly covering the shootings in the Mission area. 5 People were shot here last night. We don't give a crap that 24th and Utah are a block from the Mission. Write stories about all the victims, not just the famous ones. Shine the light. It's your job.
You all know what to do: Just Do It!

The contrast between this story and today's Photo du Jour couldn't be starker.

this sucks. i live on 24th and hampshire. the cops were happy to pull me off the 14 a few days ago and intensely harass me even though i had a transfer, but they won't do anything about all these people getting killed.

@fsharp: Good on you.

And Newson is doing.... what exactly? Oh, he's defending his sanctuary city policies, talking up victory gardens, bus stops (for buses that will never arrive or arrive in bunches) and feeling out a run for head of California. Sheesh.

Nooo! Not by Jack's! I don't want to get shot when I go there for some goooooood Po Boys.

Closest to New Orleans I've yet to have in the city.

A form letter that works for most of the people on joshb's list (kind of top of head, if anyone has something better please post it). Politicians hate/fear/notice buzzwords like "crime wave":

Mayor Newsom,

I want to express my deep concern with the recent spate of murders in this city, most recently in the Mission District. We are in the midst of a murder wave and I haven't heard anything from your office on what you are doing to stop this. I would love to hear what measures your office is taking to combat this crime wave.

Best,

Honestly, after reading the news for the past week and a half this city is starting to scare the shit out of me. I just moved here a little over a week ago, I'm crashing at my brother's pad in Oakland (ok the border of oakland, but still oakland), and I was just down the street from one of the shootings last night.

Not to mention I spent the rest of the night wandering around the mission with friends and getting drunk. I was wondering why the police presence was so heavy last night... this explains everything.

After living in LA for 5 years, maybe I've gotten soft from living in what essentially is Disneyland in comparison. Even the crazy homeless people seem more insane.

Perhaps all the allegations of police brutality by LAPD is what keeps it safe. Maybe they're not fair or nice, but I felt safe there. Unfortunately, there are no jobs there so I can't go back... :(
