MUSIC: The SF Electronic Music Festival gets underway, complete with synthetic bleep, bloop, blops sounds to entertain the masses, with Sharkiface, SF Sound Group, and New York-based minimalist composer Phil Niblock kicking things off. Runs until Sunday, 9/7. (Go here for a complete schedule.)

8 p.m. // Project Artaud Theater (450 Florida) // $12–$17 per day ($55 all five days)

FILM: It's a film. It's a concert. It's a filmed concert. Head to the Red Vic to find out what stoners, musicians, and college dorm walls have known since the late '60s: Jimi Hendrix, indeed, rocks. Blue Wild Angel: Jimi Hendrix Live at The Isle of Wight screens tonight in the Haight.

7:15 p.m. & 9:25 p.m. // Red Vic (1727 Haight) // $8.50

SCENE: Tonight the SF Symphony Opening Gala opens the season. Will Vanessa Getty be there? One can only hope. Sigh. Oh, and Michael Tilson Thomas will conduct "mentor Leonard Bernstein's Symphonic Dances from West Side Story and Rachmaninoff's sweeping, pulse-pounding Third Piano Concerto featuring Uzbeki pianist Yefim Bronfman." Fancy.

7:30 p.m. // Davies Symphony Hall (201 Van Ness) // $130–$250
