Chrome Has Arrived

Oh my word. Google, who can do no evil, released their new open source browser today. It's called Chrome. Have you downloaded it? No? Then, if the mood should strike, do so here. Anyway, here's what Anil Dash, Mr. Beale over at Laughing Squid, Valleywag's Owen Thomas, and Jason Brooks of eWEEK and the Examiner have to say about it. But what say you, savvy readers? Should we download it? (Nothing to see here, Jobsian zealots. Move along.)

Actually, Chrome is based on the WebKit rendering engine, which is also used by Safari and is heavily developed by Apple. So there is something for the Jobsians too, maybe.

Guh. Isn't Firefox already a standard? Also... those tabs are ugly... might just be the Windows part though. Also... no Mac version? The Jobsian zealots will cry!

I can't stop saying "'96 big body sitting on chrome" now. If 2pac was still around, maybe he could have rapped about this browser rather than have some nerd draw a comic about it...

If you're bored, go ahead and download it: evaluating beta software is a highly effective way to kill time.

Personally I'll wait until the official release, whenever that will be.

But, yeah. I am having some issues on sites that are "web app" heavy. I would wait a little longer unless you enjoy beta testing.

Sort of. "Webkit" is just Konqueror, a browser originally developed for Linux, with an Apple logo on it.

Wait for awhile. It's a great concept but the execution just isn't there yet.

xenu: no, it's not.
