MUSIC: Award-winning double bassist Lisa Mezzacappa throws down the jazzy beats in the Mission tonight. Her new latest music group, Before & After, featuring Aaron Bennett, John Finkbeiner, and Vijay Anderson, will have you snapping your fingers and pining for the days when jazz clubs had heroin and cigarette smoke intertwining with groovy beats. Read more about Mezzacappa here.

9 p.m. // Red Poppy Art House (2698 Folsom) // $10-$12

FILM: "A boy like that will kill you brother. Forget that boy and find another. One of your own kind, stick to your own kind," demanded Oakland's Rita Moreno playing Anita in the film version of West Side Story (1961). The Bay Area resident, we should point out, also took home the Oscar for her performance in Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim's re-imaging of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. See why when it screens tonight in, where else?, the Castro.

7:30 p.m. // Castro Theatre (Castro & Market) // $10
